For over 115 years, the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, Inc., has served the families of the Lehigh Valley. We appreciate the trust that has been placed in us. It is the policy of Burkholder's never to refuse services based on the ability to pay. Additionally, we feel that no one should go into debt for a funeral service. It is our responsibility to assist you in making an intelligent and reasonable decision, and to this, we are dedicated. A funeral is a meaningful event; and, one that, properly planned, can help ease the pain of separation. 🕰️ A Look Back at Our History 🏛️

Did you know our funeral home was originally built as the Ziegenfuss Mansion in 1896? Designed in 1895 as a private residence, it stood as a symbol of craftsmanship and elegance in early Allentown. In the 1920s, the building underwent its first major renovation—transforming it from a family home into a fully operational funeral home.

During those early years, the Burkholder family actually lived upstairs while caring for the community below. Over time, the building evolved, but its purpose has always remained the same: to serve with compassion, dignity, and respect.

For more than a century, J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home has been a place where memories are honored and lives are celebrated. We're proud to continue that tradition today in the same historic location.

At Burkholder’s, we truly believe in doing whatever it takes to keep our funeral home looking its best—and that means rolling up our sleeves and pitching in wherever needed.

Over the past week, our team has been hard at work: repainting multiple curbs out front, freshening up the directional arrows in the driveway, sanding, priming, and painting the porch roof—and even trimming the bushes to keep everything neat and welcoming.

You might catch us outside with paint brushes or hedge trimmers just as often as you see us inside in suits. We’re proud to care for every detail—from the grounds to the building—because we know that a thoughtful, well-maintained setting makes a meaningful difference for the families we serve.

Just another reminder that at Burkholder’s, we really do a little bit of everything.

Last week, our funeral directors had the distinct honor of assisting with the interment of a devoted spouse at Arlington National Cemetery, where they were laid to rest beside their veteran.

Arlington stands as one of our nation’s most revered burial grounds—a place of profound historical and emotional significance. It is a national symbol of service, sacrifice, and enduring commitment. To witness a family reunion in such a hallowed setting is both humbling and deeply moving.
