LOOKING BEYOND THE NUMBERS: WHY NORMAL GLUCOSE READINGS CAN BE DECEIVING
When insulin masks the real problem in Type 2 Diabetes

Did you know? Even when your glucose numbers look normal on insulin, your Type 2 Diabetes could still be progressing underneath. Here’s why:

🔍 What’s Really Happening: Insulin helps manage your blood sugar numbers but doesn’t address the root cause—insulin resistance in your cells. Your pancreas is still struggling, and the underlying metabolic dysfunction continues.
🌡️ The Silent Progression: While your glucose readings appear controlled, inflammation, oxidative stress, and fat accumulation in vital organs like your liver and pancreas can continue unchecked.
💊 Medication Isn’t a Cure: Insulin and other medications are valuable tools, but they’re treating the symptom (high blood sugar), not resolving the condition itself.

THE PATH TO REMISSION IS NON-NEGOTIABLE:

✅ Nutrition Transformation: Reducing processed carbohydrates and focusing on whole, nutrient-dense foods directly addresses insulin resistance.
✅ Strategic Movement: Regular physical activity increases muscle insulin sensitivity and improves your body’s ability to process glucose without medication.
✅ Weight Management: Even modest weight loss (5-10%) can dramatically improve insulin sensitivity and reduce medication needs.
✅ Stress Reduction: Chronic stress raises cortisol, which elevates blood sugar and worsens insulin resistance.
✅ Quality Sleep: Poor sleep disrupts glucose metabolism and increases insulin resistance.

TRUE DIABETES MANAGEMENT LOOKS LIKE:

🔄 Reduced Medication Needs: Working with your healthcare provider to safely lower insulin doses as your body heals.
📊 Improved Metabolic Markers: Better triglycerides, blood pressure, and inflammatory markers—not just glucose numbers.
🔬 Decreasing Insulin Resistance: Requiring less insulin to maintain normal glucose levels.

Remember: Normal glucose readings while requiring high insulin doses is not remission—it’s compensation. True healing requires addressing the root causes through consistent lifestyle changes.
Consult with our team at Sina Health to develop your personalized diabetes reversal plan. Remission is possible with the right approach!

🌙 SLEEP: YOUR SUPERPOWER FOR LONGEVITY & WELLNESS 🌙**

Perfect sleep isn’t just a dream—it’s a science-backed necessity!

**What the research shows:**
• People who consistently sleep 7-9 hours have a 12% lower all-cause mortality risk compared to those sleeping less
• Just ONE night of poor sleep reduces immune function by up to 70%
• Insufficient sleep is linked to a 40% increased risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease
• Quality deep sleep is when your body repairs tissues and consolidates memories

**Did you know?**
The brain flushes out toxins 2-3 times more efficiently during deep sleep stages compared to wakefulness.

**Why track your sleep?**
“What isn’t measured isn’t improved.” Tracking your sleep reveals patterns affecting your health that you might otherwise miss. It’s as simple as using:
• Your smartwatch - Apple, Garmin etc or other devices like (as shown here)
• Sleep apps on your smartphone
• A bedside sleep tracker
• Even a simple notepad to record bedtime, wake time, and how you feel!

**Key elements of ideal sleep:**
✅ 7-9 hours total (shown: 9h 31m)
✅ 15-25% deep sleep (shown: 19%)
✅ 20-30% REM sleep (shown: 28%)
✅ Consistent bedtime routine

**5 Science-Backed Sleep Improvement Tips:**
1. Set your bedroom temperature to 65-68°F (18-20°C)
2. Avoid screens 1 hour before bed (blue light blocks melatonin)
3. Create a wind-down routine with the same steps each night
4. Limit caffeine after noon and alcohol within 3 hours of bedtime
5. Get 15-30 minutes of morning sunlight to regulate your circadian rhythm

Sleep isn’t passive—it’s your body’s active restoration process.

Term of the Day: LAMI (Lean Appendicular Mass Index)

LAMI tells me how much lean muscle you have in your arms and legs—adjusted for your height.

Why do I care? Because this number predicts your strength, mobility, metabolic health, and how well you’ll age.

Low LAMI often hides behind “normal” body weight. You might look fine on the outside, but be losing critical muscle on the inside.

That’s why I check it for every patient. It’s a better marker of health than BMI or the number on the scale.

Want to improve your LAMI?
• Lift weights
• Push your muscles to do hard things
• Fuel with enough protein
• Sleep well

Want to get tested?
Tell your physician you want a DEXA scan with body composition analysis.
It’ll show your LAMI, fat mass, bone density, and more.

Stronger limbs = longer healthspan.
Ask your doctor if they’re checking your LAMI—or come see us and we will.

Coronavirus update: Stay calm and wash your hands!

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) spread is affecting us all. To date (March 13, 2020), there has been 20 presumed and only 2 positive cases of COVID-19 in the state of Pennsylvania.

Rapid testing is slowly becoming available around the country. Schools, colleges and universities are announcing or deliberating closures. Many companies are instituting work-from-home policies.

In light of the current situation, the most important thing to do is to stay calm and avoid panicking. Some of the things that we should all be doing is practicing good hand washing, avoid touching our faces and avoiding large gatherings for the next few weeks. Those of us that have elderly family members should be more vigilant about these practices.

Thankfully, the COVID-19 virus does not appear to affect children as severely and there has been no deaths reported in the 0-8 age group. However, this does not mean that the virus does not affect them. Children, while they may not exhibit any signs or symptoms or have very mild symptoms, such as low-grade fever and cough, can still carry the virus and pass it on those more vulnerable. Therefore, it is important that they are taught to wash their hands properly.
