October 1, 2025 Regulatory and Operational Update – Audits – Survey Process and Validation Reviews
2025 has been a year of change for skilled nursing facility services, regulations, information systems, and an increase in CMA oversight. This interactive session will review the primary issues operational and clinical managers need to address to maintain compliance and regulatory requirements that will be changing. New audits of Medicare Part A admission documentation are beginning, including a revisit of Certification Requirements and skilled services documentation. The MDS 3.0 1.20.1 will begin impacting facility data 10/1/25. The revised survey regulations related to assessment will impact all facility. Each of these focus areas of risk management will be addressed with specific steps and tools to assist teams to improve compliance, documentation and payment. The number of audits active in Skilled Nursing Facilities continues to grow and a new QRP Validation Review will begin October 1, 2025. This session will identify the focus of the audits and requirements for each. Essential content for operational, fiscal and clinical managers and their terms.
Objectives:
1. Identify the primary compliance updates and new audit processes
2. Review changes to the MDS assessment format (MDS 3.0 1.20.1) and process 10/1/25
3. Discuss survey and regulatory changes related to payment and the assessment process
4. Describe approaches to prepare the management and clinical teams to assure compliance
5. Review tools and documentation formats to reduce compliance and regulatory risks
