Meet Kristi Sanders-Sulzbach

Kristi Sanders-Sulzbach grew up in Tennessee before making Nebraska her home in 2016. After spending 21 years as a dedicated hairstylist, life led her in a new direction — one rooted in purpose and compassion.

After witnessing the heartbreaking impact of addiction on people very dear to her, including the loss of one loved one, Kristi felt called to make a difference. Determined to better understand addiction and to help others find healing, she earned her Substance Abuse Counseling Certificate in 2021. She is currently completing her Associate’s degree in Human Services to further strengthen her ability to serve those in need.

Kristi’s gentle, comforting approach and natural ability to connect with people have made her an invaluable part of the team at Sandhills Center for Hope. Clients appreciate how easy she is to talk to and the genuine care she brings into every session.

Recently married, Kristi is also a proud stepmom to two stepsons and values the importance of family, faith, and community in the healing process.

“Then he asks me if I believe in a power greater than myself, whether I call that power God, Allah, Confucius, Prime Cause, Divine Mind, or any other name. I told him that I believe in electricity and other forces of nature, but as for a God, if there is one, He has never done anything for me. Then he asks me if I am willing to right all the wrongs I have ever done to anyone, no matter how wrong I thought the others were. Am I willing to be honest with myself about myself and tell someone about myself, and am I willing to think of other people, of their needs instead of myself, in order to get rid of the drink problem? I’ll do anything,” I reply.”~ Alcoholics Anonymous, Our Southern Friend, 4th Edition

Be careful with people who have HIGH FUNCTIONING DEPRESSION.

Let's go through this together 👇👇

1. They get up, get dressed, go to work, and cry in silence when nobody’s watching.

2. They check on everybody else, but don’t feel safe asking for help themselves.

3. Their smile is practiced, their “I’m fine” is automatic, their breakdowns are private.

4. They appear to be okay, give solid advice, and hold everybody down, but when the world gets quiet, their thoughts get loud.

5. You think they’re okay because they’re productive, but they only stay busy to avoid feeling anything.

6. High functioning depression doesn’t look like laziness, it looks like overworking, overthinking, and never resting.

7. They keep it together in public, but fall apart in the shower, in traffic, or right before bed.

8. Just because they don’t say “I’m struggling” doesn’t mean they’re not drowning inside.

9. They apologize for being “too much” when they’ve really just been holding too much in.

10. They make everyone feel better, but go home feeling empty.

So when someone says “check on your strong friends,” Don’t just repost it. Do it. Because the ones who always say “I got it” are usually the ones who don’t. They suffer in silence. They laugh through pain. And they master how to function when they’re barely holding on.
