As many of us prepare to celebrate Independence Day with fireworks, cookouts, and time outdoors, it’s important to remember that July 4th is one of the busiest times of year for emergency rooms and urgent care centers.
Dr. Robert Biernbaum, Chief Medical Officer at WellNow Urgent Care and practicing emergency physician, shared with Fox News that:
“We routinely see a sharp spike in preventable injuries and medical emergencies over the Fourth of July holiday.”
From firework-related burns to heat exhaustion and alcohol-related incidents, many of these situations can be avoided with a bit of preparation and caution:
• Leave fireworks to the professionals: Fireworks are the most frequent cause of July 4th injuries, often involving young adults and children.
• Stay hydrated and cool: Hot, sunny weather can lead to heatstroke and dehydration—especially among children and older adults.
• Celebrate responsibly: Alcohol plays a role in many holiday injuries, including falls, burns, and traffic accidents.
At WellNow Urgent Care, we’re committed to supporting our communities through the holidays. While most of our centers are closed for the 4th, select locations will remain open to provide care for non-life-threatening needs.
