February is macular degeneration awareness month! Dry Macular degeneration is an eye disease where lumpy spots called drusen develop in the part of the retina where you have the sharpest vision. This can cause you to lose your very central vision while peripheral vision is usually spared. The drusen can cause the retina to weaken, and eventually blood and fluid may become present in the retina. This is considered Wet Macular Degeneration.
Early detection is key, so make sure to come in for your yearly exams! 👀
