A new year doesn’t mean you have to become a whole new person. Resolutions can start anytime — what matters is the choice to keep growing. Make it a goal to invest in yourself, one small step at a time.

Wellness tips to get started:
• Move your body in ways you enjoy, even if it’s just a short walk
• Stay hydrated and fuel your body with nourishing foods
• Prioritize sleep and rest — they matter more than you think
• Manage stress with breathing, stretching, or a quiet moment for yourself
• Stay consistent, not perfect — progress adds up

New year, same you — just better. 💪✨

Thank You, Harlan County 💙
As we reflect on 2025, the HCHS Foundation would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our community for the incredible support shown throughout another year. Every donation, kind word, and shared message truly means the world to us. Whether you gave financially or helped spread the word about our mission, your support made a difference — and we couldn’t do this work without you.

Thanks to your generosity, we successfully hosted our 3rd Annual Dueling Pianos Night and 5th Annual Golf Tournament, raising thousands of dollars to support Harlan County Health System. These funds helped purchase a new Cepheid lab testing machine, expanding our diagnostic capabilities, and made it possible to award our 1st Annual Healthcare Scholarship to local seniors pursuing careers in healthcare.

As we look ahead, we’re excited for what the new year will bring. We’re hopeful for continued support, grateful for the relationships we’ve built, and eager to grow new ones as we continue investing in the health and future of our community. Thank you for being part of our mission — we truly couldn’t do this without you!

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Alma, NE — Harlan County Health System (HCHS) is sharing an important update regarding its medical leadership team.

After thoughtful consideration, Dr. Finkner has decided to step away from his role as Chief Medical Officer to reduce his administrative responsibilities. HCHS wants to clearly reassure the community that Dr. Finkner is not leaving the organization, and his role in the clinic — including the days he sees patients — will remain unchanged. This transition simply removes additional administrative duties from his role, allowing him to continue focusing on patient care.

“I am formally stepping down from all administrative responsibilities. At this stage in my career, I wish to focus exclusively on patient care,” said Dr. Finkner. “Dr. Dreher is well qualified, and I am confident and fully comfortable with him assuming these responsibilities.”

HCHS extends its sincere gratitude to Dr. Finkner for the leadership, stability, and dedication he has provided during his tenure as Chief Medical Officer. His contributions have been instrumental in strengthening the organization, advancing clinical operations, and supporting the continued growth of services for the community. Dr. Finkner will remain an active and valued member of the HCHS team, continuing to care for patients and support clinical staff while ensuring continuity of care.

As part of this transition, HCHS is pleased to announce that Dr. Dakota Dreher will assume the role of Chief Medical Officer effective January 1, 2026. Over the past several months, Dr. Dreher has been actively engaged in organizational initiatives, working closely with clinical and operational teams, and contributing thoughtful ideas aligned with HCHS’s strategic direction.

“I am honored to assume the role of Chief Medical Officer at HCHS and look forward to contributing to the continued growth of our facility and the enhancement of services for the communities we serve,” said Dr. Dreher.

Harlan County Health System remains committed to providing high-quality, patient-centered care and looks forward to continued service to the community under this leadership transition.

It’s that in-between week — part holiday, part “what day is it?”, and somehow… still Monday.

As we look toward a new year, here’s a reminder: progress isn’t about perfection, it’s about showing up consistently. A new year doesn’t magically erase challenges, but it does offer a fresh perspective. Momentum doesn’t pause just because the calendar flips.

Every shift worked, every act of care, every problem solved makes a difference. Close out this year proud of what you’ve built — and step into the next one confident in who you are and the work you do.
