Supported Decision-Making: An Interactive Workshop
🗓 March 20, 2026
⏰ 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
📍 Central Michigan Youth for Christ

Supported Decision-Making is an approach that helps people with disabilities stay in charge of their own life choices while receiving guidance and support from trusted people around them. Instead of taking away decision-making power, this model encourages independence, collaboration, and respect for each person’s voice.

During this interactive workshop, participants will:
✨ Learn how individuals with disabilities can maintain control over important life decisions
✨ Explore alternatives to guardianship that promote independence and dignity
✨ Hear from presenters who bring both professional knowledge and lived experience
✨ Build practical skills for supporting decision-making with people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD)

Whether you are a family member, professional, advocate, or community member, this session will provide valuable insight and tools to help support more independent and self-directed lives.

📲 Use the QR code on the event flyer to register.

Come learn, connect, and be part of the movement to support autonomy, respect, and choice for people with disabilities. 💙

📣 CARF International Onsite Survey at GIHN 📣

CARF International will be onsite at Gratiot Integrated Health Network (GIHN) from February 9–11. We have invited the CARF surveyors to evaluate how well our programs and services meet international standards for quality.

This survey helps us understand what we are doing well and identify opportunities for improvement. As a result of this process, GIHN may earn or continue our accreditation.

📝 What does this mean for you?
The survey will not affect your treatment or services, but you may see CARF surveyors in the building while waiting for your appointment.

We appreciate your support as we continue working to provide high-quality services to our community! 💙

📢 Update on the MDHHS Request for Proposal (RFP)

MDHHS has officially withdrawn the previously released RFP. While this is an important development, it does not mean the work is done.

This moment reinforces why continued advocacy matters. As conversations move forward, it’s critical that MDHHS meaningfully collaborates with PIHPs and CMHSPs—the organizations that know their communities, providers, and consumers best. Sustainable, effective systems are built through partnership, transparency, and shared expertise.

Now is the time to keep our voices strong and unified. Advocacy helps ensure that future decisions prioritize access, quality care, and outcomes for the individuals and families who rely on Michigan’s public mental health system.

Let’s stay engaged, informed, and committed to collaboration. 💙

The decision follows a judge’s order to block the state’s request for proposal. The state says its aim in seeking bidders was to introduce ‘consumer choice’ to the Medicaid-backed system.
