CORNISH FAMILY NAMI CENTER
NAMI Washington County Oregon is a non-profit organization that follows the NAMI mission: “To improve the lives of those affected by mental illness through education, support and advocacy!”
A lot of us prefer different terms other than “illness”; but we are here for you no matter how you choose to identify. We also want all Peers, family members and friends to share. B
e supportive, ask for support and/or questions, share experiences and photos. Let’s also try to have some fun and laughs! Our organization offers free support groups, classes and activities. As well as volunteer opportunities, such as helping with the annual NAMI Walk. We would love to give you a tour of our home. This house was given to NAMI Washington County by Ted and Linda Cornish in 2011. Ted and Linda Cornish have experienced mental health concerns in their own family. What a selfless act; they have invested time, energy and support to NAMI Washington County. Ted has passed away, this year, but Linda Cornish still supports NAMI Washington County. We are fortunate to have such a unique place to consistently provide a safe place for many NAMI Connections support groups, educational opportunities and activities. It is for people who we like to call peers. Our NAMI Affiliate is a place to find help for mental health concerns. We are uniquely different than most NAMI Affiliates. You can volunteer to help tend our very own garden. We would like to welcome you to our house, a safe, non-judgmental atmosphere to talk to others about mental health. Have coffee, tea or a conversation about what we offer at NAMI Washington County. We want you to know you are not alone. Mission Statement: “To improve the lives of those affected by mental illness through education, support and advocacy.” A lot of us prefer different terms other than “illness”; but we are here for you no matter how you choose to identify. There is no cost for the services we provide. Please feel free to drop by anytime during regular office hours, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Come on over to our Cornish Family NAMI Center and see what we have to offer.

When Governor Tina Kotek signed 5 bills to address Oregon's behavioral health crisis last week, our very own Shelley, NAMI WashCo Peer Support Specialist, got to speak about why this legislation is so important.
"When someone's struggling and sits across from me, they see someone who's been in their shoes. They know I understand the shame, the fear, and the feeling that recovery is impossible. But working in this field with lived experience means confronting my own trauma every single day, which is why I'm thankful for the steps toward the governor is taking today."
These bills will make it easier for people with severe mental health issues to receive treatment in Oregon. This includes establishing more residential treatment beds in behavioral health facilities, as well as making it easier to mandate treatment when someone is at risk of harming themselves or others because of their mental illness. The bills also include creating a statewide strategy for youth substance use protection.
Thank you Governor Kotek for signing these important bills! And thank you, Shelley, for sharing your story 💙
🍎 Teachers, as you prep your classroom for students’ return, include mental health and wellness tips in your preparation!
NAMI’s Back to School hub is a one-stop shop for the resources you need to develop healthy coping strategies, discuss trauma, teach about mental health conditions, and more!
