Heart disease is the leading cause of death. This is why I preached the importance of a heart healthy lifestyle to my patients. Part of this lifestyle includes controlling and monitoring blood pressure. You don’t have to wait until you’re in the office to check your blood pressure -- you can do it at home. Checking your blood pressure at home has been found to lower the risk for heart attacks, strokes and health care costs. Let me know if you need more information.

Most cancer cases have a higher survival rate when they’re detected early. However, there are more than 200 types of cancer and only five have early screenings. As a result, more than 50 percent of cancers are diagnosed in an advanced stage. A new type of test may change this dynamic. Called liquid biopsies, these multi-cancer early detection tests may help fill the gaps left by the five standard cancer screenings. They may also be combined with those standard screenings to provide a more comprehensive approach to early detection. If you’re curious about this kind of test, let’s talk at your next appointment.

Each year, I have patients catch the flu. Some bounce back after a week, while others end up hospitalized for several weeks. Of course, having a heart or lung condition can cause complications. But a weaker immune system also can lead to life threatening issues. You can try lowering your risk of serious flu illness by boosting your T-cells. Here’s what you need to know.
