This weekend I spent time with my extended family at our annual reunion—and wow, my heart is full.

We laughed, danced, shared stories, ate way too much food, and simply enjoyed each other’s presence. Being with family reminded me of something I often forget in the busyness of work and caregiving:

It’s okay to pause. To breathe. To just be.

As therapists, we hold so much space for others that we sometimes forget to hold space for ourselves. If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, burned out, or stuck in compassion fatigue—you’re not alone.

Here are 7 gentle ways to get your light back when you’re running on empty:
1. 🌿 Reconnect with joy – Do one thing this week that brings you genuine happiness (no productivity attached).
2. ☀️ Step outside – Let nature remind you of the world beyond your inbox and therapy notes.
3. 🧘🏾‍♀️ Say “no” and mean it – Protect your peace by honoring your boundaries.
4. 💬 Lean into community – Reach out to someone who gets it. You don’t have to carry everything alone.
5. 🎨 Create something – Journal, draw, cook—whatever helps you feel grounded and expressed.
6. 💤 Prioritize real rest – Not scrolling. Not zoning out. Actual rest. Your body and brain will thank you.
7. ✨ Remember your “why” – Revisit what brought you into this work. Sometimes purpose can relight the fire.

💛 You are not just a therapist. You are a human being who deserves care, rest, and joy too.

If this resonates with you, drop a heart in the comments and let’s remind each other to breathe.

🧠 Signs of Autism Burnout – What to Look For 🌪️
Autistic burnout isn’t “just stress” — it’s a deep mental, physical, and emotional exhaustion caused by prolonged masking, overwhelm, and sensory overload.

Here are some common signs of autism burnout to watch for:

🔹 Increased fatigue, even after rest
🔹 Difficulty with communication or speech
🔹 Withdrawal from social activities
🔹 Heightened sensitivity to sound, light, or touch
🔹 Trouble with executive function (starting tasks, organizing, remembering)
🔹 Feeling numb, detached, or emotionally flat
🔹 Increased meltdowns or shutdowns
🔹 Loss of previously developed coping skills
🔹 Physical symptoms like headaches, digestive issues, or insomnia

🛑 Autism burnout can mimic depression or anxiety — but the root is often chronic overwhelm and masking.

💬 If you or someone you love is experiencing these signs, it’s okay to pause, rest, and ask for support. Recovery takes time, self-compassion, and a sensory-safe space to decompress.

💡 Let’s raise awareness so autistic individuals can be seen, supported, and celebrated — not stretched to the point of collapse.

🧠 ADHD remains one of the most under-assessed and misunderstood conditions in clinical practice—especially when layered with depression, anxiety, or executive functioning challenges.

After 20+ years supporting ADHD clients as both an educator and clinician, and as a parent to a neurodivergent child, I’ve seen the urgent need for deeper, **neuro-affirmative training** among mental health professionals.

That's why I created this live, NBCC-approved CE workshop:
**Assessing and Supporting ADHD in Clinical Practice**
📆 June 21, 2025 | ⏰ 11am – 2:30pm ET | 💻 Online
✔️ 3 CE Credits | Perfect for LPCs, LCSWs, MFTs & more

This interactive session will equip clinicians to:
🔎 Accurately assess ADHD across the lifespan
📋 Differentiate ADHD from comorbid conditions
🛠 Implement targeted, evidence-based interventions
📚 Use printable screening tools & treatment planning resources

Let’s close the gap in care for neurodivergent clients.

To my fellow clinicians: this workshop comes straight from my heart.

As a mom of a neurodivergent child and a therapist who has supported ADHD clients for over 20 years, I’ve seen how often ADHD goes misunderstood, especially in the therapy room.

Clients deserve more. And we deserve tools that actually work.

That’s why I’m inviting you to join me:
🌟 Assessing and Supporting ADHD in Clinical Practice
📅 Saturday, June 21 | 11am–2:30pm ET | 💻 Live CE Webinar
📜 3 NBCC-Approved CE Credits

You’ll leave with:
✅ Confidence in assessing ADHD vs. comorbidities
✅ Interventions rooted in lived experience + science
✅ Resources you’ll use over and over again

Let’s do better for our clients and ourselves.
