It's been bittersweet looking through 11 years of birth records this morning as I got ready to announce my doula retirement.

146 births. 97 of them with the amazing Joe Tate. 96 birthing after a cesarean. 19 families who invited me into their birth space more than once. I have a lot more data than that but it would probably get boring very quickly lol

Birth is unpredictable. So is life. Mine has now gone down a path that takes me away from doula work, and though I am sad, I think I am also ready. It's been a wild ride.

Sometimes we need a break from things to be reminded of just how important they are to us. Supporting growing families is soul fulfilling and rewarding and I am looking forward to meeting all the new babies coming up

Back on call for 2 days (repeat client) and after an early morning Thanksgiving birth, I'm back off until January. Eagerly awaiting all the 2019 babies!

I know several people who suffered with HG during their pregnancies. It is so misunderstood and can have lasting effects, physically and psychologically.

I had severe postpartum hypertension after all of my births - if I'd not been monitoring my own BP at home and called for meds, I could have had a stroke or other life-threatening complication.

We've heard from 3,100 women who survived life-threatening complications of pregnancy or childbirth. They told us what they wished they had known and what they would say to new and expectant mothers.
