This past month our Cumberland location hosted an inspiring CE event on Work-Life Balance. The evening was filled with insightful information on work-life integration, meaningful discussions, and strategies for staying grounded in the midst of a demanding work environment.

Yesterday was a great day to be a dental professional in Gainesville, GA! Our Gainesville team hosted a special Open House Lunchtime Block Party, welcoming over 150 local dentists and staff, a record turnout in AOFS history!

Guests enjoyed a delicious lunch from The Lunch Counter, sweet treats from King of Pops , and lots of exciting giveaways. Most importantly, everyone had the chance to tour our newly renovated office and meet Gainesville’s newest dedicated Oral & Maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Chris Kim.

Dr. Kim is thrilled to be here! He is already providing exceptional oral surgery care to all of Gainesville and the greater North Georgia community. As a former general dentist himself, he understands the perspective of referring doctors and is passionate about building strong, lasting relationships within the dental community.

Meet Jennifer ✨
This month, we’re proud to shine the spotlight on Jennifer Rakestraw, who has been a cornerstone of the AOFS team at Douglasville for an incredible 20 years!

As a Front Office Coordinator, Jennifer plays a vital role in handling checkout, ensuring that every patient experience ends with the same warmth and professionalism that defines AOFS. Her calm demeanor, attention to detail, and genuine care for patients make a lasting impression each and every day.

Brandy Whitaker shares, “Jennifer’s commitment to patient care consistently goes above and beyond expectations. She is always willing to assist wherever she’s needed, and her dependability plays a key role in ensuring the day runs smoothly. Jennifer’s positive, strong work ethic makes her an invaluable asset to our team.”

Outside of work, Jennifer is deeply involved in her church and loves exploring the outdoors, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. She and her husband Shane have been married for 27 years. They are proud military parents to their daughter Morgan, a United States Marine, and hold their daughter in Heaven, Caley, close in their hearts. Their Yorkie, Buddy, rounds out their loving family

Whether she’s helping patients at checkout or cheering on her beloved Georgia Bulldogs, Jennifer brings heart, dedication, and positivity to everything she does. We’re so grateful to have her as part of the AOFS family!

Last Thursday, we had the pleasure of hosting a special CE event at Dunwoody Country Club, led by Drs. Velez, Keim, Dillard, and Blair. The evening brought together our referring dentists and their teams for an important conversation about mental health in dentistry.
Dr. Brandon James lead an impactful presentation on the critical need for self-care in a high-pressure, fast-paced field such as ours. Together, we explored practical strategies to manage burnout, reduce anxiety, and build a healthier, more supportive workplace culture.

In recent months, an insurance transition at our practice resulted in unforeseen and frustrating ongoing billing and payment issues for some of our patients using Cigna Dental. We have been working diligently to resolve this issue.
Today, we are happy to announce that AOFS providers and locations are in network with Cigna. We sincerely apologize for any challenges patients have encountered in recent months. Our goal remains to provide a 5-star patient experience from the first call to the final outcome. Likewise, our priority is to retain and grow the trust our referrals have placed in us to care for their patients over the past 45 years.

AOFS is excited to welcome Dr. Lewis Dillard to our oral surgeon team!

After receiving his dental degree at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, he completed a 1 year internship and, subsequently, his hospital residency training at Temple University Health System in Philadelphia. Here, he received extensive training in all aspects of oral and maxillofacial surgery, including dentoalveolar surgery and placement of dental implants, IV anesthesia, maxillofacial trauma, maxillofacial pathology, corrective/orthognathic jaw surgery, and management of temporomandibular disorders. Throughout dental school and his residency program, Dr. Dillard served in various leadership positions, presented several lectures, and attended numerous continuing education programs. He also volunteered through the Mission of Mercy to provide care for underserved people in Maryland.

He and his wife Sarah reside in Atlanta with their new daughter and dog Nellie. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling to new destinations, playing golf, and constantly learning new things.
