Let's be honest, who doesn't want to try this out? The only thing I would warn about would be to make sure that your nap is not scheduled too late in the day, or that it runs on too long. Being awake and active builds up adenosine (which is blocked by my friend caffeine), and that is what builds during the day and makes "sleep pressure" at night. Along with morning sun exposure, afternoon or early evening exercise, avoidance of lots of light at night, and a good cool down routine, adenosine helps tell us it is time to go to sleep and stay asleep for that 7 - 9 hours (NOT 6) that we all need.

Daytime naps, when done correctly, can reduce fatigue and increase alertness. Experts weigh in on the Navy SEAL version.

For many of our patients with Meniere's disease, vertigo can be extremely debilitating. It is good news that antihistamines can help the vertigo symptoms patients are experiencing, as benzodiazepines such as Va**um are extremely sedating and obviously habit forming. For the extremely common symptom of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, most commonly seen in postmenopausal women and presenting with brief but severe episodes of spinning usually brought about by a head position change such as when rolling over in bed, exercises are helpful. I am frequently asked about this from patients who have had smell and taste loss after COVID. This is a very good long-term study, as we are now TWO YEARS PLUS into this pandemic. The recovery rate is 88% for all of the patients in the study, so there appears to be hope for many who have not had a quick recovery of their sense of smell and/or taste.

This cohort study estimates the 2-year prevalence and recovery rate of smell or taste dysfunction in patients with mildly symptomatic COVID-19.

Traditional recommendations have been for between 7 - 9 hours of sleep for adults. Older adults do have a somewhat decreased need for sleep. That being said, there is a definite harm that comes in getting too little sleep, with many U.S. adolescents and young adults, in particular, not getting enough sleep.

The negative health effects of lack of sleep, or poor sleep, are many. When insufficient sleep occurs, fat accumulation may increase, which in turn will worsen obstructive sleep apnea. The cycle then continues.
