Alpine EMS - West Texas Ambulance Service

Alpine EMS - West Texas Ambulance Service Alpine and Northern Brewster County's premier Emergency Medical Services
providing the highest level

West Texas Ambulance Service was started in July 1977 after the city privatized
ambulance service. My brother and I took the first ever Emergency Care
Attendant Course offered in Alpine in February 1976 while on the Alpine
Volunteer Fire Department. In August of 1976 we enrolled in the first EMT
course offered in Alpine. We began our EMT internship and worked part time
with WTAS starting in December 1976. In April of 1977 after graduatiing from
the EMT course we began working full time with WTAS. After a few years and wanting to expand our education we both enrolled in
Odessa College's Paramedic program in August of 1980. We completed our
training in May of 1981 and were the first Paramedics in our area. In July of 1985 I purchased the company and we have built it to the highest level
of EMS care available.

Today West Texas Ambulance Service ceased operations in Alpine and Northern Brewster County. Over the past few weeks since my father's passing, I have been working closely with Terlingua EMS to insure a smooth transition as they take over the service area. Even though I am not currently carrying on the service I am leasing the ambulances and equipment to Terlingua EMS so you will still be seeing the same units around the area.
This was by no means an easy decision but myself and Greg Hennington have worked hard at the common goal of continuing to serve the citizens. I'd like to thank the City of Alpine, Brewster County and Terlingua EMS for their unwavering support during this most difficult time. To the members of area departments who offered their assistance and skills, we are forever thankful.
A deep heart felt thanks to my crew members, who even after delivering care to my father, continued to serve the community without pause or hesitation, never once ceasing operations. And thank you to the people of the community, your kind words and prayers have been enormously felt and appreciated. My dad loved Alpine, loved the people and loved his job, I know he would be thankful to each person who has worked hard to make this all come together - Jessica Scudder.

Good evening friends and family,

As you may be aware, the City of Alpine and Brewster County lost an amazing public servant last night.

On December 5, 2021, EMS Director Michael Lane Scudder suffered from a cardiac emergency and passed on to be with his loved ones.

Director Scudder had been dispatched to an emergency call Sunday evening. He assisted a patient but was experiencing shortness of breath and chest pains while administering aid. He assisted in loading the patient into the ambulance and drove them to the hospital. Upon arriving at the hospital he advised his EMTs to take the patient inside the emergency entrance. After the EMTs had assisted the patient into the hospital they returned to find Director Scudder in the ambulance having a cardiac emergency. Life saving measures were administered by hospital staff but unfortunately Director Scudder succumbed to his injuries.

Michael leaves this world just as he served for decades- putting others above himself. Michael lost the love of his life in April of 2020, and anyone who knows him knows how hard that has been on him. Our family finds peace in continuing his legacy of helping others and knows that Michael is reunited with Traci and his brother Mark in heaven.

We thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, and kind words. More information will be posted as it becomes available.

For the meantime, please enjoy every second with your loved ones and ensure that you serve others with love and respect.

Thank you.

Happy Thanksgiving! Everyone be safe and have a great holiday.

At the National Night Out Tuesday evening our
Alpine EMS Personnel and Alpine Firefighters displayed some of the emergency vehicles and equipment we use to serve our community. We had quite a few people stop by to say hello. Thank you to the Alpine Police Department for inviting us to the event. We all enjoyed visiting with the guests, our law enforcement and the great hotdog cookout. Thank you all for making this a fun event.
