There’s something special about welcoming someone back who already feels like part of the family – and that’s exactly the case with Cheryl Morton, RN.
WEL-Life at Alta Assisted Living is excited to welcome Cheryl as our new Director of Healthcare Services. For Cheryl, this role is more than a new chapter – it’s a return home. She was part of the Alta team in 2014 and says coming back just feels right. She already knows what makes this place special – the people, the connections and the care.
Cheryl brings 22 years of experience in long-term care, with the last 16 in leadership. Her background includes skilled care, assisted living, hospice and mental health, along with certifications in assisted living, wound care and infection prevention. But what really drives her is simple – caring for people the way she would want her own family cared for.
That belief shapes how she leads. For Cheryl, it starts with taking care of residents like they’re your own and creating an environment where people can live with dignity, purpose and a true sense of home. She’s especially excited to continue growing the Alta community and supporting a strong, engaged team.
Originally from a farm in northwest Iowa, Cheryl still carries that grounded, hardworking spirit with her. Outside of work, she loves being outdoors – especially anywhere there are mountains or rivers. She lives just a block from the river, so kayaking close to home is a favorite, and when she heads west, you’ll likely find her out hiking.
She’s also no stranger to a challenge. Cheryl has completed multiple ultra marathons – from 25K all the way up to 100 miles – racing in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska. While she hasn’t competed in a few years, that same determination still shows up in everything she does.
Family is a big part of Cheryl’s life, too. Her son Dawson was recently married in the Black Hills, and her daughter Karly is attending cosmetology school while also teaching dance. At home, she’s kept company by her two dogs, Aspen and Tucker.
We’re proud to welcome Cheryl back to Alta – and we know our residents, families and team are in great hands.
