Our highly requested Light After Loss: Grief Support and Education Group is back this fall.

This 6-week group provides a supportive space to share, learn, and connect while navigating the complex emotions of loss.

Participants have shared:
"I was kinda sad when it was over."
"Facilitators really made the group feel comfortable and safe, while challenging us with thoughtful questions and discussion."

This group offers:
A safe space to connect with others who understand your loss
Psychoeducation on the grieving process using Worden’s Four Tasks of Mourning and Bowlby’s Four Phases of Grief
Tools to navigate emotional, physical, and relational changes
Gentle guidance toward healing, meaning-making, and self-compassion

When: Mondays at 7pm, October 20 – November 24

Where: New Light Counseling, 650 Maitland Ave, Altamonte Springs, FL

Cost: $60 per session (insurance options available)

Pre-registration required – brief screening prior to start

We’re not meant to absorb this much tragedy. From remembering 9/11, to witnessing the war in Gaza, the assassination of a political activist, and ongoing school shootings, it can feel overwhelming just to keep up with the headlines.

Here are 4 ways to cope when the news feels too heavy:

1️⃣ Set boundaries with violent media
Limit your consumption. Constant exposure can desensitize you and increase stress.

2️⃣ Sit with your feelings
Notice your emotions, ground yourself in the present, and allow yourself to feel without running from it.

3️⃣ Connect with others
Reach out to people you trust. Share your feelings, sit together in silence, or simply hold space for one another. Grieving together lightens the load.

4️⃣ Take breaks and disconnect
Step away from social media and the news. Go outside, breathe fresh air, or change your environment to rest your mind.

You don’t have to carry it all alone. Pause, breathe, and care for yourself. 💛

Your inner child may still be carrying stories that were never true.
Maybe you were told you were “too much” or “not enough.”
Maybe you felt like you had to keep everyone else together while no one held you.

The truth is: you never deserved that.
And healing starts when we begin speaking to those younger parts of ourselves with kindness, honesty, and love.

Your inner critic isn’t trying to ruin your life…it’s trying to protect you.
It just learned to do that in harsh, rigid ways.

It thinks if you’re perfect, you’ll be safe.
If you stay quiet, you won’t be rejected.
If you never need anything, you won’t be too much.

But real safety doesn’t come from self-criticism.
It comes from curiosity, compassion, and connection (with yourself and others).
