New real-world data shows that early introduction of infant safe peanut products helped about 60,000 children avoid developing peanut allergies—a major step forward in prevention.
“This research reinforces what we already know and underscores a meaningful opportunity to reduce the incidence and prevalence of peanut allergy nationwide,” said Sung Poblete, PhD, RN, CEO of FARE. “To turn the tide on food allergy, we must prioritize prevention while accelerating research toward a cure—ensuring that every child has the chance to grow up free from the burden of food allergy.”
For decades, pediatric guidance recommended delaying the introduction of allergenic foods like peanuts, but the 2015 LEAP study proved that early introduction could reduce the risk of peanut allergy by more than 80%. The new data shows those findings are translating into real-world success, marking a significant step forward for public health and prevention. Expanding access to early introduction through federal nutrition programs like WIC could help ensure more families benefit from this life-changing progress. Read more here: https://bit.ly/47bDuM9
