Richmond friends - do you have family or friends in the Orlando area that need fitness support? Specializing in older adult strength maintenance and building, specialized Parkinson’s exercise therapy, overall fitness improvement, sport specific training and if you’re into it - good old-fashioned ____fit style AMRAP or for time workouts that’ll leave you feeling like you can jump over building (when you recover 😉). All levels of fitness are welcome and everything can be adapted and scaled. I train out of a private studio allowing us to focus on our session without distraction or limitation. So, tell you parents, grandparents, friends or anyone that you think would benefit from having some strategic movement added into their routine!

Sport specific training can change an entire experience. I started training for a trip out west a few months ago and it made a huge difference. I only recorded 4 out of 5 days of riding but I can say that it’s the most I’ve ever ridden. Day after day of riding pretty much all day and I never felt sore in the morning, I was able to ride terrain I normally wouldn’t have ridden, while maintaining form integrity all day avoiding injury. Whatever the sport, a specific and strategic training program can take you to the next level.

The other day someone asked me about my fitness goals and I had to think about it. I couldn’t really think of anything that I was actively working towards other than generally gaining strength and moving to burn calories to lose weight/slow weight gain. This memory popped up from 21 years ago and I realized that my overarching goal is to just maintain a level of fitness where my physical condition doesn’t hold me back from the things I want to do. It’s been 20 years since I used to casually take a 55 mile ride for a mid-ride coffee. I’m glad I can say that I can still do it today and I want to be able to do it 20+ years from now. It could be short term goals like losing a few pounds or inches of our waist, training for a 5k/10k, doing an adventure race like , a weightlifting PR, preparing for a ski vacation so you can ski/ride all day without getting worn out or cycling through the mountains on a vacation. Or, when we get to an age where we need think about longevity so we can simply go on vacation and take that walking tour, attending sporting events, be able to see kids/grand kids/nieces and nephews graduate in that big stadium, walk the dog and staying fit so we can just enjoy life and go about our daily activities without any limitation, discomfort or help. Long story short, what do you want your life to like and do you have the plans to get there?

Same mission, similar look but a slightly different approach. Our mission has always been to improve your quality of life through a balanced approach of food and fitness. Now training out in Altamonte Springs, I am offering in-person Personal Training paired with Nutrition Coaching to help you achieve your goals. No matter your goal, the two go hand in hand. Nerd alert…. Are you trying to drop a few of those Holiday pounds? You gotta know the numbers! Until you truly wrap your arms around the numbers and what they mean, it’s a challenge to see change. The “I’ll just do a few extra workouts” only goes so far. “I really didn’t eat that much/bad today” is subjective if you don’t know the numbers. For instance, 1 tbsp of mayo on that “small sandwich” can be 25-30% of the calorie value of the sandwich and 10% of your daily intake. Like everything that’s worth it, it takes time, investment and effort. We’ll get into discipline later. We all have our own goals, and for a lot of us after the holiday season, we want to shed those extra pounds we packed on because our activity/workout levels got out of balance with food and drink. That’s ok, it was worth it. Now it’s back to business but that means that going back to what we were doing will probably just get us back to maintenance mode. Calories in vs. calories out is a “duh” statement. The objective now is to understand what it’s going to take to get to where you want to be, and then the discipline and actions necessary. Last week was a pretty active week in terms of exercise and decent in terms of the numbers when it comes to food. Last week, I was able to achieve a considerable deficit because even though I had Macros/Calories to spare on heavy workout days, I chose to just stick to the plan of staying under the maintenance goal. It’s kinda like a budget, or money. Just bc you have it doesn’t mean you have to spend it. That’s where the discipline comes in. A little under 10lbs in 25 days is pretty aggressive but I really want to kickstart this year and set myself to be able to find a balance and lifestyle that is both healthy, enjoyable and supports my fitness goals. I’m back!!!!! Well, sorta. It’s been a long two years but it’s time to wake up the Human brand and get back to my love of food and fitness. I appreciate all the support you’ve shown over the years to me, as well as to Ned and the crew while they kept Human Food alive in my absence. I’m in Florida now so the model has shifted a bit, quite a bit. It’s no secret that your fitness/wellness is and will be directly tied to your longevity and quality of life as we get older. I learned, and saw, a lot about that in the last few years. Be More Human Fitness is focused on achieving total wellness through In-Person Personal Training at a fitness and physical therapy studio in Altamonte Springs, FL (if you’re here in Orlando), Fitness Programming/Virtual Coaching, Nutrition Coaching and Support, and Meal Prep Coaching. In the next few weeks I’ll be putting together the different plans and programs that I’ll be offering.
