We are once again dropping in your feeds begging you to heed our warnings.

If someone calls you claiming to be from the IRS, Sheriff's Office, FBI, or the ghost of Abraham Lincoln and tells you to send money over the phone, it's a scam. Not maybe. Not possibly. Definitely. 100% a scam.

Government agencies do not accept payment with gift cards, Zelle or Cash App. We won't threaten to arrest you over the phone then give you a chance to pay your way out of it like it's Monopoly. Publisher's Clearing House is not going to give you 27 million dollars if you send them $5,000 first.

So here is your friendly reminder:
If someone asks you to pay anything over the phone - hang up.
If someone threatens you or demands payment - hang up.
If you find yourself on the gift card aisle on the phone with "the sheriff" - hang up & run.

In fact, if you don't have the number saved in your phone, just don't answer. If it's important, they will leave a message.

We're not trying to be mean, we just want scammers to stop targeting Jackson Countians and getting away with it.
