Pelvic floor therapy is designed to help both men and women of all ages address concerns related to pelvic pain and dysfunction. At Alton Physical Therapy, we provide compassionate, professional care to help patients feel more comfortable and confident in their daily lives.

The pelvic floor is made up of muscles that support important functions such as bladder and bowel control, core stability, and organ support. When these muscles become weak, tight, or uncoordinated, it can lead to symptoms such as:
• Leaking urine or bowel control issues
• Difficulty using the bathroom
• Pelvic pressure or discomfort
• Pain during daily activities
• Pain or dysfunction during intimacy

Our therapists focus on evaluating and treating not just the pelvic floor, but how it works with the rest of the body to restore proper function, strength, and coordination.

🌟 APT Spotlight: Meet Laura Peterson! This month, we’re excited to highlight Laura Peterson, Clinic Director at Alton Physical Therapy!

Laura was born, raised, and currently resides in Gillespie, IL. She earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Maryville University of Saint Louis in 2018. During her schooling, Laura worked as a physical therapy tech at both our Staunton and Litchfield locations, giving her a strong foundation within the APT team early on. She has experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings, and over the past several years has worked with a wide variety of diagnoses and patient populations. Laura especially enjoys working with post-operative orthopedic patients and helping athletes return to sport after injury.

What Laura values most is building relationships with her patients—taking the time to educate them on their diagnosis and guide them back to their highest level of function. Outside of the clinic, Laura enjoys spending time with her husband and their two dogs, as well as running and traveling—with Disney World being one of her favorite destinations!

We’re proud to have Laura as part of the APT team and appreciate the dedication and care she brings to her patients every day.
