Today, we pause to remember George Ferris — the heart and inspiration behind the George Ferris Neuro-Hope Center.

The journey began June of 2015 when George discovered a special kind of therapy in Florida that changed his battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He found a way to fight back against the disease and actually win. George was determined to bring this back to our town, Altoona. He believed our community deserved more - more access, more hope, and more specialized care for those living with Parkinson’s disease and other neurological conditions.

Because of George’s vision and belief in me as a therapist we now have that place.

Every patient we serve, every step regained, every moment of independence restored — all carries a piece of his legacy forward. His passion continues to guide everything we do.

Today, we remember George — not just for what he dreamed, but for what he and his family have made possible for others.

I think he would be so proud of our special place that changes lives everyday! He will always be missed by many!!

This is a silly photo, but this post covers an important topic!

Neurological rehabilitation is highly specialized, and not all therapy is created equal. If you or a loved one is battling a brain injury or a progressive neurological disease like Parkinson’s Disease, working with a therapist who has advanced, disease-specific certifications is critical. Basic training is not enough to slow progression and truly fight back.

Specialized programs such as LSVT BIG, PWR, and other advanced neuro-based approaches make a powerful difference when delivered by therapists who truly understand the disease inside and out.

At the Neuro-Hope Center, treatment is 100% focused on neurological conditions. Care is one-on-one with the same certified therapist each session, alongside a community of individuals on the same journey. In addition to personalized therapy, specialty group exercise classes and monthly support groups provide education, encouragement, and hope.

If you’re investing time, energy, and money into therapy, make sure you have a specialist who knows your condition. The right expertise can help you stay ahead of the disease and truly fight back šŸ’•šŸ§

Thank you to our patients for helping the students gain experience and gain a greater understanding of what OTs do in this setting! šŸ§ šŸ’•

One of our toughest patients is fighting back against ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to muscle wasting and paralysis. There is currently no cure for this disease. This particular patient’s daughter is organizing a fundraiser called BREWS to BEAT ALS in honor of her father and all others in our community who are battling this disease. The proceeds from this event will be given to the ALS Association. Help us spread the word about this event! Let’s pack the house to support the brave and strong individuals and families who are fighting this disease! See the attached flyer for details. Hope to see you there!!!

Today was our Basic Training exercise class which meets every Wednesday at 11am. Some of our motley crew arrived early to socialize and share stories before their class of fun and torturešŸ˜‰ began. This class is led by one of the best neuro-coaches in Central PA (Melissa G.)šŸ‘ŠšŸ¼

Tucker is at it again! Today, he assisted during our exercise class. Each individual took turns walking BIG while carrying Tucker through the gym. This gave them practice with dual tasking (doing two things at once), which is something that can be difficult for patients with Parkinson’s.
