September is almost over but childhood cancer is not gone!

Today we are drawing attention to Retinoblastoma, the most common cancer of the eye diagnosed in children. It accounts for nearly 2% of all diagnosed childhood cancers and is typically diagnosed between 1-2 years of age. While there can be a genetic component to retinoblastoma, most cases do not have a known hereditary link. It is curable in 95% of cases, and, like most childhood cancers, prognosis is often better the earlier it is found.

Signs and symptoms of retinoblastoma include:
~white color in the center of the eye (pupil) when lights are directed on the eye, such as in flash photography
~eyes that appear to be looking in different directions
~poor vision
~eye swelling or redness
