NCIL Listening Session: Housing

Register online at https://bit.ly/48S6l85 or reach out to jessica@ncil.org for more information

Finding affordable and accessible housing is one of the biggest barriers to independence for persons with disabilities.

The National Council on Independent Living (NCIL) Housing Subcommittee wants to hear from you to help inform where to focus our federal advocacy for 2024!

What barriers do you or your consumers face when it comes to finding housing?

What programs are working? What programs are not working?

Is Housing being addressed in your State Plan for Independent Living?

What is your CIL’s relationship with your Public Housing Authority?

We want to hear it all!

Target Audience: Staff members of Centers for Independent Living (CILs) and Statewide Independent Living Councils (SILCs), consumers of CILs and persons with disabilities who have encountered barriers to affordable and accessible housing.

If you need any accommodations, please reach out to NCIL’s Director of Advocacy and Public Policy, Jessica Podesva, at jessica@ncil.org. ASL and CART will be provided.

Please note, the purpose of this event is to hear concerns and challenges related to housing needs in your communities to identify systemic advocacy issues. We will not be able to address or provide advice on individual housing cases at this event.

WE WANT TO HEAR ABOUT LIFE EXPERIENCES OF PENNSYLVANIANS WITH DISABILITIES!

The Pennsylvania Statewide Independent Living Council (PA SILC), in partnership with the network of Centers for Independent Living (CILs) and the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) is providing opportunities to hear directly from you about what your life experiences are as Pennsylvanians with disabilities. It is our responsibility to hear from the people to plan for the future of the Independent Living Movement. It is your right to be provided with this opportunity to give input and have your voice heard.

These are a few questions that might help you frame your thoughts:

What is your current situation?
Are you satisfied with this?
What should be different?

If you or someone you know has an intellectual or developmental disability, this workshop is for you!

October 30th from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Somerset County Library.

Many people with Intellectual and Developmental
Disabilities get negative messages about sexuality. Healthy Relationship Training will help to dispel myths and replace them with positive messages. Learn how to access information and local resources and learn how to make informed decisions to be safe and healthy in your relationships. Presented by Center for Independent Living of South Central PA's Marty Dombrowski.

Here are some reasons why people with developmental disabilities think it is important to have access to education about healthy relationships.
- So we can make informed choices
- So we can be safe
- To get the correct information
- To get resources and tools to make healthy choices

Please register by emailing cshea.cilscpa@gmail.com or calling (814) 949-1905.
We value inclusion and access for all participants and are pleased to provide reasonable accommodations (including dietary considerations) for this event. Please contact Cassidy or Nick: cshea.cilscpa@gmail.com or (814) 949-1905 to make a reasonable accommodation request. Requests must be submitted by October 27th. This event is wheelchair accessible.
