Have you ever been thrown a "wild card" during your recovery journey? They sure do happen. What was that like?

Lets talk about it. This game is Phase 10. Just like recovery, its all about phases.

In Phase 10, players navigate through different phases, each with its own challenges and requirements. Similarly, mental health/recovery journeys can be seen as navigating through various phases or challenges like:

- Completing phases of healing: Overcoming obstacles and achieving milestones in mental health/recovery.
- Drawing the right cards: Accessing supportive resources, people, or experiences that support growth.
- Adapting to changing circumstances: Coping with life's ups and downs, and adjusting strategies as needed.
- Reaching the final phase: Achieving a sense of balance, stability, and well-being.

Just as Phase 10 requires strategy and perseverance, mental health/recovery journeys require effort, self-awareness, and support.

**Do you know that we at Peerstar of PA can even start with a simple card game? Utilizing basic tools to support you in feeling comfortable and relaxed during your pathway. Let us try a game of Phase 10 and get your pathway started today!

Recovery is like building a house.
If it’s built without intention or support, the structure can falter over time.

Two people begin building.

One wakes up each day with purpose. They set goals, some small, some bigger, but all intentional. When they don’t know what to do next, they ask questions. They don’t build alone. A Certified Recovery Specialist walks alongside them, not to take over the work, but to support the process. Together, they choose strong materials. They talk through options. They slow down when needed.

With peer support, they begin laying a solid foundation. Walls go up one step at a time. The CRS doesn’t build the house for them, but stands beside them, offering lived experience, encouragement, and steady support. The structure becomes stable. When storms come, and they always do, the house holds. It may need repairs. It may need reinforcement. But it stands.

The other person rushes. They grab whatever materials are closest. They don’t want support. They feel like they have to do it alone. The foundation is uneven. Walls go up quickly, without care. Days are skipped. Corners are cut. Over time, the materials begin to weaken. The windows shake. And when the storm hits, the roof is lost, not because they weren’t capable, but because they weren’t supported.

This is why peer support matters.

Certified Recovery Specialists don’t decide how the house should look. They don’t force a blueprint. They respect all pathways to recovery. Their role is to walk alongside, to support intention, offer perspective, and remind people they don’t have to build alone.

When building recovery, when laying the foundation and raising the walls, it takes intention.
It takes support... And sometimes, it takes a whole construction crew.

Recovery isn’t about building fast. It’s about building something strong enough to last.

January is National Treatment Month for Substance Use Disorder, a time to recognize the many ways people begin and continue their recovery journeys.

Treatment can be an important part of recovery — but it is not the entire picture.

Don't know where to start? Scared of thr first step?

Certified Recovery Specialists (CRSs) support individuals before, during, and after treatment, and also support those who choose recovery pathways outside of formal treatment settings. Peer support meets people where they are and walks alongside them as they define what recovery means for themselves.

During National Treatment Month, we honor:
• Those who are considering treatment
• Those currently in treatment
• Those who have completed treatment
• And those who pursue recovery through other pathways

✨ Recovery doesn’t end when treatment does — support shouldn’t either. We are here to walk that pathway from beginning to when you feel it should end ✨️

Every shoe wears different. Even if you buy the same design, they are stitched together different. They wear in differently. They are cared for differently.

Certified Recovery Specialists (CRSs) support all pathways to recovery. That means honoring each person’s choices, beliefs, culture, and goals without judgment or pressure to follow a single route.

Recovery may include:
• Medication or no medication
• Treatment, therapy, or mutual aid
• Faith-based, holistic, or community supports
• Harm reduction, abstinence, or somewhere in between

A CRS doesn’t decide the path—we walk alongside the individual as they define what recovery looks like for them.
When people feel respected and supported in their choices, recovery becomes more sustainable, meaningful, and real.

✨ Your journey. Your path. Your recovery. Let us support you as you navigate.

If we do not offer CRS in your area, we may offer Peer Support and we can support you in connecting to other providers or possible CRS programs in your area.

Has your New Years goal or resolution pointed toward substance use recovery? Recovery doesn’t look the same for everyone—and that’s exactly why support matters.

A Certified Recovery Specialist (CRS) is someone with lived experience who walks alongside individuals on their recovery journey. Not to fix, judge, or direct, but to support, listen, and remind people they are not alone.

CRSs use their own recovery experience, combined with training and certification to:

-Build genuine, trusting connections
-Offer hope through shared understanding
-Support individuals in finding their own pathways to recovery

At the heart of peer support is this truth: recovery is possible, and connection makes it stronger.

✨️What will you do today to keep moving on your recovery pathway?✨️

Whether it be recovery in your mental health or recovery from substance use, both take intentional action. Both take pathways. Both take support.

Every day for most people, it's intentional. Doing things to make sure they are still walking their pathways. Even in the smallest of steps or rest stops.

Of course we reach places that are not as hard, we start find the pathway to be more stable, but in the background we continue to work the steps.

Steps 5,354,678 are just as relevant as step 1.

Keep walking, don't skip the rest stops, and recharge.
