With the sun and the rain, we have poison ivy coming out in numbers. To see what it looks like and how it works please follow the link to the Mayo clinic website below. Most people are not allergic to poison ivy and can touch the leaves with no ill effects. A few folks will develop severe rashes that itch, spread, and can have burning pain. Here are a few tips for those who suffer from poison ivy this time of year 1) always wear long sleeve shirts, long pants and gloves when working in the yard, 2) stay out of the smoke when burning yard waste, and 3) shower and wash your clothes immediately after yard work.

If you are exposed to poison ivy you may want to use tecnu a washing agent to get the oils off quickly and lessen the reaction. See the link below.

Trust Tecnu the “Outdoor Itch Expert” to solve your poison ivy & oak rash, insect bites, and more so you can keep enjoying the outdoors.

We will be running flu shot clinics beginning in September. Please watch for our dates and times. Here a couple of reminders about the flu shot.

Flu season in Iowa normally runs from November through March.

The flu shot takes 2 weeks to be most preventive, so don't wait until you have been exposed to get it.

The flu shot usually lasts about 6 months but loses some of it's effectiveness each month after it is given.

Here is the link to the CDC Flu vaccine page for more information.

Vaccination to prevent influenza is particularly important for people who are at high risk of serious complications from influenza.

Fourth of July Thank You

Thank you to everyone who helped make the 4th a great celebration! There are so many people within our community who do their part, and more, to make our 4th of July happen. We are thanking those listed below and apologize for anyone we missed. Many hidden helpers do a lot of work so even if you are not named here “Thank You”!

To the folks who organized the baseball game and Kubb area. It is great to have groups of people enjoy the park all day!

Fireworks crew-Led by ‘Fully Loaded Aerial Displays’-Chris Herr and Lynn Trumpold, it was all hands on deck to get the fireworks set up and displayed before the storm hit!

The Kitchen crew- Michael Heinze, Kristie Yoder, Penni Berger, Tony Berger, Carmen Grimm, Tom Gross, Andrea Haldy, Susan Shoup, Marcia Schutterle, Jane Krauss, Connie Baugh, Jackie Krauss, Dennis Gormley and Dixie Trout. Many of these folks show up year after year without being asked to help get food organized and served! A very special thanks to those who stay to clean up after the meal while the rest of us listen to music!

The breakfast gang-Amana Church youth group, leaders and cooks led by Penni Berger who do more before 7:30 am than most of us do all day! And Elly Hoehnle for an inspiring church service.

A very special thanks to Amana Society for letting us use the park each year. Thank you to Dan Hollrah for the Bulletin space. To the Amana Meat Shop crew for the brats, hot dogs!

And to Dr. Tim, the guy who does the fundraising!

And again, to anyone we forgot to mention, we appreciate all that you did! It was a great community effort!

And to these sponsors of the event!
