One of the Caucasian mummies discovered in a grave at Yanghai, in the middle of the Gobi Desert near Turpan in China's Xinjiang region, surprised archaeologists with a stash of still-green ma*****na buried alongside him, weighing nearly 1 kilo.

This discovery is significant because it provides insights into how our ancestors lived and extends the period during which we know cannabis was used for psychoactive or possibly fortune-telling purposes. The man was buried with a collection of rare and valuable artifacts, including bridles, pots, archery equipment, and a konghou harp, suggesting he might have been a shaman of the Gushi culture. The ma*****na, indigenous to Central Asia, was lightly pounded in a wooden bowl and stored in a leather basket.

The man was approximately 45 years old and was buried around 2,500 years ago.
