There are many misconceptions with .

Our current culture has allowed an already well established disease, grow even more rapidly.
🖥Photo shopped images are the new standard.
❌ Diet trends
⚠️Dieting & activity apps constantly advertised.

Our diet culture/health culture tells lies like:
🆘Ignore your hunger.
🆘Become smaller.
🆘Be prettier as thinner.
🆘Thin is healthy

✅—> truth: a person is more than the # on the scale, or size of clothing, or amount of food they eat in a day, or the amount of exercise they do.

✅—> truth: there is no disease that ONLY a person in a larger body may obtain.

✅—> truth: we each have our own personal relationship with food & body image.

❓❓When does it become unhealthy? Where does the line become drawn as scary? When is too little too much? Or too much too much?

🗝Simply ask yourself- is blame, shame, pain in my relationship (with food, body image, or movement)?!?

Ask for help. Shine 🔦light into the darkness.
Bring it into the open (in a safe place) and let the healing road to recovery begin. ❤️🏆🙏🏻🙌🏻

Following these updates?
Walmart’s ReliOn diabetes mgmt brand has glucometers, supplies and has had some insulin options like NPH (intermediate acting insulin), Regular (short acting insulin) for awhile.
& —> NOW as of today: Novolog (rapid acting- the fastest insulin) is available for 1/3 the price.
Novolog is used in combination with long acting insulin (like Lantus) to help manage the blood sugar of a person with diabetes.
Insulin in combination with mindful eating/portions & daily movement WILL reduce complications diabetes can cause.
In other words- without insulin (when needed), a person with diabetes WILL develop complications.
Diabetes does not discriminate, young, old, rich, poor, small or larger bodies.
Don’t understand?!?
-please learn, let us not assume a person with diabetes “should do better”.
Without the proper tools, it can’t be better.
We can do better in advocating, helping, listening, & supporting!
Recently, Texas legislation has been working to address capping the out of pocket expense of insulin. —> Federally this is being discussed & will help too!
The insulin patent was sold for $1… now a vial (30days or less worth) costs $300!

After hearing about this specific body shame- from multiple clients - over the last few weeks- I wanted to share this great photo (from Instagram).

And, offer this lil nugget of love/reminder:
We are on month 15 of a global pandemic.
Our world was flipped upside down.

You likely experienced less movement.
You were likely home more.
You likely had more access to food.
(Snacking more- it’s not a sin, let it go)
Oh and I don’t know- maybe you were freaaaaaaking out a bit.
Bc. Life. Has. Been. Difficult

Bodies change.
It’s okay.
Give yourself grace.
Allow yourself to give others grace.

Bodies change. And, it is a-okay. Say it with me!

Our family spent some time away- together to celebrate and kick off the summer.
Which meant lots & lots of sky photos for me ☀️📸.
It was great to disconnect for a bit🔌 (from work, home remodeling, “farm” projects, etc) and
🦋 B E S T I L L 🦋
Last pic the challenge that is diabetes + summer outdoors:
✅Finding clever ways to keep insulin pump away from heat and water
✅Remembering pump site covers to avoid infection in water
✅Managing off & on pump to avoid highs.
✅Being prepared for low blood sugar or supply changes.

Summering with diabetes?! Don’t shy away from what you love. ❤️
Plan ahead, pack sugar sources and plenty of supplies (even for day trips) and have a fantastic time!🙌🏻💯🎉🏆☀️🏄‍♀️🏊🏾‍♀️🤽🏽🚣‍♀️

🎉Happy News! 🎉
I am continuing to partner with Amarillo Medical Specialist.
And, I am continuing to grow my private practice focused on partnering with careteams in treating Eating Disorders.
And, tomorrow I join the team, as the Diabetes Program Coordinator.
The program is accredited & has been a foundation of diabetes resources for the panhandle for years & years!
I can not wait to begin planning and growing outreach and education opportunities on behalf of and for people with diabetes in our communities!

It’s springtime!
Our family moved to a bigger land space recently, and we are prepping for some new adventures this spring/summer!
This weekend was perfect weather for some work 💪
Raised garden prep:
Going twice the size as last year. 🤩
The hubs found lots of old wood in the barn clean out- to make the raised bed frame. We have been building a massive compost pile since we moved in Nov. Plus, tons of extra hay found in the barn/pens have made this garden foundation - on point!
New family members:
We also welcomed 10 baby chicks into the family this weekend. 🙀🙀 .
Tonight, they are sleeping indoors, spoiled rotten already!
