Earlier this month, the Texas Panhandle Poison Center, in partnership with TTUHSC-Jerry H. Hodge School of Pharmacy students and faculty, held its 100th Medication Cleanout event, giving Panhandle residents a safe way to dispose of expired, unused or unnecessary medications. Ronica Farrar, an educator for the Texas Panhandle Poison Center, spoke with KAMR Local 4 News about the purpose of the event and how the process helps the community safely dispose of medications. Since its inception, the Medication Cleanout has resulted in the collection of more than 103,302.7 pounds of medications and sharps across 100 events.

The Laura W. Bush Institute for Women's Health in Amarillo hosted its annual Power of the Purse luncheon, bringing together community members in support of women’s health. This year’s keynote speakers, Sandra Joseph and Ron Bohmer, former stars of The Phantom of the Opera, presented “Unmasking What Matters,” and were joined on stage by youth performers from Amarillo Little Theatre.

The luncheon was co-chaired by TTUHSC Senior Director of Community Engagement and Donor Communications Meaghan Collier, helping bring together an event that continues to grow in impact each year. To date, Power of the Purse has raised millions of dollars supporting scientific research, medical education and community programs across the region. Bush Institute for Women's Health at . The Broadway veterans spent time with the Amarillo Little Theatre (ALT) Academy students, leading an interactive session with the students, sharing insights, professional coaching and performance feedback. The Texas Panhandle Poison Center, in partnership with TTUHSC-Jerry H. Hodge School of Pharmacy students and faculty, held its 100th Medication Cleanout event this month, giving Panhandle residents a safe way to dispose of expired, unused or unnecessary medications. During the event, 1,665 pounds of medications were collected. In total, 364 cars utilized the convenient drive-thru drop-off, allowing participants to safely discard items without leaving their vehicles.

Since its inception, the Medication Cleanout has resulted in the collection of more than 103,302.7 pounds of medications and sharps across 100 events.
