Gray County OEM officials say there is a grass fire in Gray County.

The fire is near Alanreed. Officials are issuing evacuations for residents in the area.

There have been multiple reports of black smoke in the city of Amarillo. THERE ARE NO FIRES NEAR AMARILLO AT THIS TIME. Due to the wind shift we are getting lots of calls. If you see a fire please report it but if you just smell or see smoke do not call at this time. Our dispatchers are extremely busy.

The Amarillo Area Office of Emergency Management along with fire officials are monitoring the situation right now. We will keep you updated.

If you have a health condition, please stay inside.

If you have DONATIONS, please wait for further instructions. Do not attempt to take them to the scene. We are working on coordinating all the donations for tomorrow.

Brutal cold weather is expected this week into Christmas. Please start preparing for it now and don’t forget about your outside pets too! Be safe & stay warm!

It is never too early to prepare for active winter weather. Going towards the second half of the work week as of the current forecast, wind chill values could get as low as -30°F. Please check back for updates to the forecast as we go through a cold week ahead.

Nine people in the United States are killed every day in crashes that are reported to involve a distracted driver. There are three types of distracted driving: Visual, Manual and Cognitive. Keep our eyes on the road, hands on the wheel and mind focused on driving. April is distracted driving month, let's do our part in limiting distracted driving accidents.

Another windy day is expected. It will not be as bad as yesterday or as wide spread but the fire danger is still there. Use caution today and remember fire safety first—no outside burning, don’t throw or put out ci******es on the ground, don’t drag any chains, and don’t drive on grass areas. Be safe everyone!

We all know that phones, radios, passengers and even other drivers can be a distraction but studies show that stress can also increase your chances of crashing. Happy April 1st! Today is the first day of Distracted Driving Awareness Month. According to nsc.org, "our roads are the most dangerous they’ve been in years; on a typical day, eight people are killed and hundreds more are injured in distraction-affected crashes." Not only does this put our workers at risk, it puts everyone who backs out of their driveway and onto a roadway at risk.

Please stay home if possible as the snow continues to blow through overnight. If you have to be out please be extra careful out there!! Safety first everyone!

If you don't have to be anywhere, please stay home. Visibility is close to zero in places and the roads are icy and slushy. If you are out and about, please slow down and leave plenty of room to stop. If you see emergency vehicles, slow down and move over so we can work.
