Advice from an old momma...

When your kids are young, they need to see on your face, with your actions and your words that you are glad they are here. That they are a one of a kind a masterpiece. It is your job to fill them with love so they can go out and be good humans in this earth.

If you don't hug them or love on them, then who in society is suppose to fill their love tanks. You are not going to spoil them by saying nice things or hugging them.

If you don't like to hug, get over you and think about what they need. Maybe it's a pat on the back, sitting next to each other on the couch or chair.

I often see parents look at their kids with just blank stares or like they are dumb or annoying or not at all because they are too busy on their phones. You are creating a void that probably will take a lifetime to fix.

You have the chance when they are young to pour into them.

When I see parents on their phones, I watch kids trying to get their parents attention by saying awkward stuff or non-stop talking or this just disengage.

I know parenting is hard. As the mother of 4, there are many times I lost my sh*t being overwhelmed. And even with trying to get four kids to their events, clean a house, have a full time job, get a masters... I failed at a lot of things but my kids knew I loved them and they were important to me.

As all old people will tell you, life goes faster than you think. And you only have a moment with your kids.

Love them well it makes our world a better place. You are the only mom or dad or special person they will have.

Great read on grief

Grief is both real and measurable. Scientists now know that the death of your father or mother will forever alter your brain chemistry and may also have physical effects.
