Mark's voice & language continues to grow with PECS. He has not only advanced to an electronic AAC device to communicate his wants & needs, he's answering questions in therapy & in his classroom.
Look at that smile.
Here is Mark continuing to advance his skills with PECS! We love his to see him use his voice.
At our Therapeutic Learning Center, Mark's success story may have begun with finding his voice to communicate, but it certainly doesn't end there.
We love to see his big smile and hear him laugh with sheer joy as he enjoys practicing his newly learned life skill ~ riding a bike, during his classroom's recess.
At our Therapeutic Learning Center, our specialized and highly trained team members meet the children where they are, and we are ready to help them go as far they are able.

WHY PECS?
To continue the tradition of maintaining highly trained therapists, STS sent a group of therapists to a Picture Communication Exchange System (PECS) training. These therapists came back excited and eager to implement and utilize PECS.
We want to share one of our success stories: Mark.
In January of 2014, Mark’s therapy treatment included the implementation of PECS. After a few weeks of PECS integrated into his therapy, Mark began responding by making requests for numerous items that ranged from his favorite foods to highly desired toys.
Mark was extremely motivated and quickly traveled through the PECS phases. He found the freedom to make meaningful choices. With the dedication by his PECS therapy team, lead by his SLP-Assistant, Louise Goggins, Mark finally found his voice.
Today, Mark continues to communicate and learn with PECS throughout his day at our Specialized Learning Center with his therapists, teachers, peers, and at home with his family. He is able to make complex requests, comments, and even express his feelings. The utilization of PECS into his therapy has truly enriched Mark’s life.
Here is a video of Mark utilizing PECS and communicating his desires at the sentence level.
Because of our success with PECS, STS is excited to host a PECS Level 1 training on June 5th and 6th. If you are interested in finding out more information or registering, please email us at pecs1@stsamarillo.com.
(PECS is a unique communication intervention that focuses on the initiation component of communication. Individuals are taught to exchange a picture of a desired item with a communication partner who will immediately honor the exchange as a request.)
We are currently looking for qualified Speech Therapists and Occupational Therapists! If interested, please apply at www.stsamarillo.com under the employment tab.
