🌍 Zero HIV Stigma Day – July 21st 🌍
Today, we stand together to say no more stigma.
Zero HIV Stigma Day is a global call to action — a day to raise awareness, challenge misconceptions, and show support for people living with HIV. Stigma keeps people from getting tested, seeking treatment, and living openly. It has no place in our communities.
At PASO, we believe everyone deserves dignity, support, and access to care — without judgment. Together, we can end HIV stigma and create a future where compassion leads the way.
💬 Start the conversation.
💡 Share the facts.
❤️ Be the reason someone feels safe and seen.

Wendy Miller isn’t just PASO’s Financial Manager—she’s also a role model, advocate, and reminder that thriving with HIV is possible.
Wendy discovered she was HIV positive on her 40th birthday. It was a life-changing moment—but not the end of her story. Instead, it led her to PASO, where she found purpose in helping others and fighting stigma.
Today, with 11 years on the PASO team, Wendy manages finances behind the scenes, ensuring the organization can continue providing essential services. Though she doesn’t work directly with clients, she understands their needs firsthand—having once been one herself.
“I know the feeling of ‘how am I going to pay for my meds, doctor, etc.’ That’s why I care so deeply about what I do here.”
Outside of work, Wendy is a proud grandma to three grandsons and loves getting creative in her craft room.
She describes PASO in one word: Passionate. And she hopes the takeaway from PASO’s work is simple but powerful: good health.
Wendy, thank you for your heart, your strength, and your voice. You are proof that life with HIV is not only manageable—it's meaningful! ❤️

Stable housing is essential for staying healthy, especially when living with HIV. That’s why PASO offers housing assistance through the HOPWA (Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS) program—providing rental support, utility assistance, and short-term housing solutions to individuals and families living with HIV in the Texas Panhandle.
Through HOPWA, PASO helps clients:
✅ Maintain housing stability
✅ Avoid homelessness
✅ Access vital healthcare and support services
If you or someone you know is living with HIV and struggling with housing needs, you’re not alone. Call PASO today at 806-352-1070 to learn more and find out if you qualify.

📣 People of PASO Spotlight: Meet Chase Peterson
For the past four years, Chase Peterson has brought heart, grit, and deep compassion to his role as Program and Education Director at PASO. With a background in psychology and a Master of Social Work, Chase leads community programs, educational outreach, and services that directly support individuals affected by HIV/AIDS.
Chase’s journey with PASO started long before his first day on the job—his family were proud supporters of the organization, and he’s carried that passion into a powerful professional commitment. From fighting stigma to creating safe, informed spaces, Chase’s work is all about helping others feel seen, supported, and empowered.
💬 “HIV is not a death sentence—it’s a manageable condition, and everyone deserves access to care, respect, and support.”
🎧 Fun fact: Chase is a devoted reader, a proud pet pig and dog parent, and a heavy metal music lover!
At PASO, Chase embodies his personal motto: “Meet people where they are, not where you expect them to be.” And we’re all better for it.
Stay tuned for more “People of PASO” stories—and if you see Chase at a PASO event, say hi (or ask him what book he’s reading next)!

This mural isn’t just paint on a wall—it’s a statement.
🧡 That everyone deserves to feel seen.
💛 That HIV stigma ends here.
💚 That healing and support start with community.
We’ve extended the mural fundraiser deadline to July 31, and we’re counting on you to help us cross the finish line.
It’s one of the most common questions—and one of the most important to understand:
🦠 HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is the virus that attacks the immune system.
⚠️ AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) is the most advanced stage of HIV, when the immune system is severely damaged and opportunistic illnesses begin to appear.
But here’s the good news:
With early diagnosis and daily treatment, HIV does not have to progress to AIDS. People living with HIV can lead long, healthy lives and never develop AIDS.
Let’s end the confusion—and the stigma—with facts.

The Panhandle AIDS Support Organization, Inc. (PASO) is a not-for-profit support agency. PASO opened its doors in August of 1987 offering education to the general public and emotional support to those persons infected with HIV disease in the 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle.
Today PASO is a full service community based organization with a case management system which provides referrals to doctors, dentists and optometrists, therapeutic counseling, transportation, housing assistance, and support groups.
PASO became a Local Performance Site of the South Central AIDS Education Training Center in 2008. Our agency is committed to improving the quality of life of patients living with HIV/AIDS through the provision of high quality professional education and training.
Opportunities include in-house AIDS education programs, and a larger Annual HIV /AIDS Symposium through collaboration with the Amarillo College Center for Continuing Healthcare Education.
PASO also offers educational programs tailored to the needs of civic groups, churches, hospitals, businesses and the general public.
Funding for PASO comes from state and federal grant funds, private foundations and local contributions.
