Scientific evidence and lived experiences show that thoughts and emotions affect and alter our DNA, and our DNA affects our thoughts and emotions, attitudes, and behaviors.
You are capable of reprogramming the DNA code to transmute ancestral issues that are not healthy or not for your highest good.

This is why our work has focused on nervous system regulation. It's the key long term health and a healthy functioning society. This is an area MAHA should seek to explore if they are truly curious about improving public health.

The ACE (Adverse Childhood Experiences) Study, conducted by Dr. Vincent Felitti and Dr. Robert Anda in the 1990s, was a groundbreaking research project that studied over 17,000 participants to understand the connection between childhood trauma and adult health. It revealed what was already fairly obvious, but wasn't studied much in mainstream thought, that the experiences from childhood shape your nervous system and brain when you are an adult.

Childhood trauma isn't just a psychological issue - it's a public health crisis that fundamentally alters physical health. According to data that is likely underreported, about 64% of adults have at least one ACE, and the effects are cumulative and long-lasting. This research shifted medical thinking from asking "What's wrong with you?" to "What happened to you?" establishing that many adult health problems have roots in childhood experiences and require trauma-informed approaches rather than just symptom treatment.

Start the day off right to keep these cravings at a minimum. 🍳🥩🥑🍓🍯

Cravings aren’t a lack of willpower…

Your body is incredibly intelligent. When something’s missing, it asks. The problem is we’re often taught to silence the signal instead of answering it well.

🍫 Chocolate cravings = Magnesium
Reach for dark cacao, cooked green leafy vegetables, nuts, and/or a high-quality magnesium supplement.

🥨 Salty cravings = Electrolytes
Try celery sticks, cucumber slices or watermelon, sip coconut water or bone broth, and sprinkle a pinch of Celtic Sea Salt on your meals.

🍭 Sugar cravings = Blood-sugar support
Spice up coffee or yogurt with cinnamon and clove, steep holy basil tea, or try using pumpkin pie spice.

🥩 Red-meat cravings = Iron
Enjoy grass-fed steak or organ meats like liver and heart to replenish iron stores, boost energy and support healthy blood—especially important for women and athletes.

🍟 Fried-food cravings = Healthy fats
Swap the fryer for real fats: avocado, extra-virgin olive oil, coconut oil or natural almond butter.

Your nervous system also plays a big role in this, regardless of the thoughts you might have. If your nervous system is overly sensitive (dysregulation), it may send signals to your brain that the environment you're in is unsafe.

Then thoughts begin to emerge that seek to confirm that. The key here would be to use your senses and consciousness to tell your body and nervous system that you are not actually in danger.

So you can explore this concept both at the level of thought and the level of body to see what might be more relevant to you.

Unresolved emotional trauma can deeply alter the body’s stress patterns, leaving the nervous system stuck in an extended period of survival mode. This can come from the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system via chronic fight, flight, freeze or shutdown responses. (Or even a mix of them)

Harvard research shows that long-term stress and trauma can make the nervous system hypersensitive, so that ordinary sensations are experienced as discomfort or pain. Over time, this heightened state can create chronic muscle tension and inflammation even when no clear medical issue is present. These are essentially bracing patterns within muscle and fascia that are storing emotion or unresolved responses to traumatic events like being yelled at, not having needs met, an accident, constant overriding and hustling to meet the needs of the modern world etc.

When inner wounds remain unhealed, the body often speaks the truth the mind isn’t ready to articulate.

Starting to work with this involves first building awareness of our body and how we feel. I've left an exercise in the comments if you want to check it out.
