🩺 Prevalence of High Blood Pressure in the Black Community.
In my recent medical surgical mission trip to Nigeria, I had a rude awakening as almost all the patients we saw for surgery had astronomical blood pressure readings which made the team postpone their surgeries for later date until the blood pressure are managed or controlled. In my research black adults in the United States have one of the highest rates of high blood pressure in the world and estimates show around 55–58% of black adults have hypertension.

Uncontrolled high blood pressure is “silent killer.” Why? This is because many people don’t have noticeable symptoms, yet it can seriously damage the heart, brain, kidneys, and blood vessels over time.

Prevention
1. Get Your Blood Pressure Checked Regularly
2. Adopt a Heart-Healthy Diet
3. Stay Physically Active
4. Maintain a Healthy Weight
5. Manage Stress and Sleep
6. Limit Alcohol & Quit Smoking
7. Work With Your Healthcare Provider

📌 Takeaway
High blood pressure is very common in the Black community, but it’s also highly preventable and manageable when caught early and treated with lifestyle habits and medical support.
