NAMI Central Iowa

NAMI of Central Iowa provides support, education and advocacy for those with mental illness, their friends, families, and members of their communities. We serve 15 counties in the Central Iowa Community Services Region: Story, Boone, Greene, Marshall, Jasper, Poweshiek, Hamilton, Hardin, Franklin, Madison and Warren, Wright, Hancock counties. Our goal is to make a better life for people affected by mental illness through support, education, and advocacy. We serve as a source of understanding and encouragement for all who face mental health issues or have a loved one with mental illness. Our entrance is located on the east side of the building in the parking lot for our use. We are in the same building as Miss Meyers Consignment. The administrative office of NAMI Central Iowa is open 9am - 4:30 pm Monday through Friday and the entrance is located on 5th St. The Mental Health Wellness Center located at 424 - 5th Street is open from 10:30- to 4:30 Monday- Friday. We are a safe place for those with a mental illness to gather to participate in various activities as crafts, art, yoga, writing group, pilates, Connection Support Group, board games, agency awareness presentations and discussions, knitting, current events discussions, book club, etc. NAMI Central Iowa holds weekly Connection Support Groups for persons with mental illness at the Mental Health Wellness Center Thursdays from 2-3:30 & virtually Saturdays from 5:15-6:45. The NAMICI Family Support Group meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month at 7PM (however, meets one week prior the months of November and December). NAMI Central Iowa holds Board of Director Meetings on the second Tuesday of most months. NAMI Central Iowa offers yearly educational classes for persons living with mental illness and for family members: Family to Family, Peer to Peer, and Basics.
