I had a sweet couple stop by my booth last Saturday to get a Palo Santo + Sandalwood Candle. They’re typically customers at the community market and recognized my products from there. They told me a story about how this is their favorite candle because it reminds them of their wedding day. They’re from Texas and got married at the The ZaZa Hotel in Austin. The ZaZa has a signature scent that is apparently very, very similar to the notes in our Palo Santo + Sandalwood. They’re so happy to have a local candle that brings them back to their special day.

As we head into the season of making memories, it’s time to pick the signature scent for your space! The scent your kids will smell 15 years from now and be reminded of home. Can we talk about it?

Soy is marketed as a natural alternative. It’s also pushed as being 100% American grown + supporting the farmers. But here’s the hard truth.

Soy grown in America is heavily modified. The DNA of the plant has been altered to make it better suited to grow in our climates (because it is not a native plant here). If the genetic makeup of the plant has been mutated, what do you think it does when we expose it to our body + our DNA?

Hi. Hello. This is what we call a mutagen. 😬

Coconuts + Apricots are both non-GMO and highly renewable resources. They’re not clearing land and destroying ecosystems to grow either of these plants. Not only is it natural but it’s much cleaner too! It burns cleaner, longer, and more evenly compared to soy. The apricot creates an incredible scent bond which is what gives our candles a great scent throw.

Just because you see soy often in natural candles doesn’t mean it’s the best option. It’s simply the cheapest. It allows makers to market their products as natural and upcharge for that “high end quality” all while keeping their overhead cost down.
