While many of you already know this if you’re a client or know me personally — “Dietitian” is not the most important title I hold. It’s “Mama” 🌼

For the most part I have kept this off public social media for a myriad of reasons (it’s a sensitive subject for those navigating infertility, to maintain my sons privacy, and more); but I am feeling SO ready to start talking about my journey with Motherhood (the best journey of my life) and use my experiences to help support others in this season of life 💛

Next week I will be a guest on the podcast Milk Making Minutes with Lo Nigrosh, IBCLC to talk about my experience with breastfeeding and ALL THINGS postpartum body image. While I will still be keeping many things private (my sons name, exact age, other private details to protect him, etc) I’m so excited to share more with you all, and stay tuned for more postpartum goodness to come 👀

Have you heard about Dominique’s offering coming up the last weekend of this month: “Embrace Your Body, Explore Your Values, Unleash Your Creativity - Body Image & Art Workshop”? Learn more about her and her passion for this workshop:

“After having a MAJOR ‘ah-ha’ 💡 moment after New Years of 2020 (and the associated influx of those seeking weight loss through restriction), I realized as a Registered Dietitian, supporting others with nutrition doesn’t just come from the food. It comes from the approach we take towards it. This is when I delved into intuitive eating, HAES approach, dismantling diet culture…and I never turned back ✌️

Why art? 🎨 Well, working through struggles with body image and diet culture is HARD WORK and often very challenging emotionally. It can be tough, and sometimes words are just simply not enough. Having as many tools in your toolbox as possible is key when navigating these topics, and art can be a very powerful one. Research has shown doing art can help improve self esteem, reduce stress, improve symptoms of depression and/or anxiety, build confidence, and promote change in ways of thinking....all to improve one’s well-being. How amazing is that?! 🤩 Not to mention, it is FUN and can help build community.

While I am not an Art Therapist, the author of the book this workshop is based on (Ashlee Bennett, AThR) is and this activity is directly from her book: The Art of Body Acceptance 📚 With that said, I have loved art in all forms since I can remember. As a small child, I always looked forward to art class and that theme continued into my adulthood. I dabble in all sorts of art mediums including painting/drawing, creative writing, knitting and crochet, pottery, pastels, stained glass, and all kinds of DIY projects. During this workshop, think of me as your artsy fartsy body image guide rather than an Art Therapist 😉 Thank you so much for joining me and supporting this vision....let’s do it!”

Just a reminder…don’t comment on bodies.

Today, or any day.

To anyone, of any body size or identity.

No matter if you mean it as a joke or compliment.

Simply. Don’t. Comment. On. Bodies.

You never know what is going on behind the scenes or how a given comment (even if well intended) will be taken.

We hear the term “BALANCE” a lot in the world of nutrition, and I wanted to chat about what that REALLY can mean 🧐🤨Balance can be much more nuanced than we think 💭

Things to think about:

✨ Do you experience guilt and shame or anxiety around certain foods or food in general? Are you cutting out specific foods and restricting? Are you able to enjoy social gatherings and holidays fully without stressing about the food you eat?

✨ How do you feel? Are you feeling satisfied physically and mentally, or do you feel sluggish and irritable? Do you generally have enough energy as you go about your day to do the activities you need/want to do?

✨ Are you getting in a variety of foods? Again, is anything lacking? Do you notice any negative health effects as a result of not having enough of something?

⭐️ Think BIG PICTURE when it comes to balance. It should encompass how you’re nourishing your mind, body, and spirit ⭐️
