If you have a child who is currently undergoing pediatric speech therapy, we want to remind you how important it is to involve the whole family in the process. Family involvement can greatly benefit the child's progress and success in speech therapy.

During therapy sessions, the therapist may teach specific techniques and exercises that can be reinforced at home. By practicing these techniques consistently, your child will have more opportunities to improve their communication skills and reach their goals.

Additionally, family members can provide valuable support and encouragement for the child. You can help them practice their speech exercises, provide positive reinforcement when they make progress, and create a supportive environment for them to communicate more confidently.

There may be some habits parents try to eliminate or reduce in front of their children. However, there is one habit that parents should opt to do more around kiddos: reading!

Reading is one of the best ways to develop language! By picking up a book in front of your little ones, it helps cultivate their interest in reading.

Recognizing the signs of a speech and language delay is key to early intervention!
🤍 Only uses a few sounds
🤍 Unable to use short sentences
🤍 Speech isn't clear to familiar people
🤍 Does not use join attention

If you notice your kiddo is exhibiting any of these signs, be sure to contact your pediatrician. They then can refer you to a local speech therapist office. For those in the Southern New Hampshire area, be sure to give us a call! We currently have openings. (978) 496-9550

✨ Tip for Parents: Foster conversations with your child by making comments instead of asking questions. 🌟 This helps model dialogue and encourages natural conversation flow. Try describing what you're doing or sharing an interesting observation to spark their interest.

Around age two, kiddos start to understand more of what is spoken to them, and are able to use more words to communicate what they want and feel.

If you think your child isn't meeting early communication milestones, be sure to seek an evaluation from their pediatrician. Although the "wait and see" method is tempting, seeking early intervention is the most beneficial action for your child.

Signs to look for:
▪️Using less than 50 words
▪️If they are not combining words
▪️If language seems to be regressing
▪️By age three, they are not able to ask "WH-" questions (what, where, who, etc.)

When working on speech and language development, it might seem like the best thing to do is to constantly ask your toddler questions. Instead, try adopting one of these methods to spark communication with your little one!

⭐ Repeating - Repeat back what your child said to you!
⭐ Observing - Instead of saying, "What are you drawing?" try saying, "It looks like you are drawing a cat!"
⭐ Elaborating - Think of this like answering a question! For example, you should expand on that by saying, "Yes, the cow does say moo!" the marker is dry because the cap was left off."

A Passion for Speech Therepy

We are a family centered, play based speech therapy company that provides in-home and on-site pediatric speech therapy to children of all ages and abilities. All speech therapy sessions are tailored to meet the needs of each individual child’s strengths and to encourage the development of new skills. My therapy sessions occur in a natural, relaxed setting to prompt immediate use of a child’s new skills. At Speak Easy I place importance on a child’s ability to use new skills across each day and with the people they regularly interact with. A family centered technique allows parents and teachers to target a child’s speech and language goals every day. Specialized activities are taught to ensure the child is getting lots of practice thus speeding up their progress. Speak Easy Speech Therapy believes that children learn best when they are having fun!
