Make sure to check on elderly family and neighbors, especially if they lose power! They are more susceptible to negative effects of cold temperatures.

Statement from Niagara County Emergency Services Director Jon Schultz: “Between the extreme cold and potential for a significant amount of snow, we could be facing some dangerous conditions through Monday. This has led the governor to already declare a state of emergency for all of New York, which allows for quicker deployment of resources wherever needed. Having said that, there is still uncertainty on the route the storm will take and how it will impact Niagara County. I encourage everyone to take all necessary precautions, especially when it comes to dealing with the cold. While we hope it’s not as bad as it could be, we need to be prepared.”

They say this storm could last days. Please do not go out in low visibility conditions. For your safety and the safety of our team members, stay in where it is warm. And remember, the emergency vehicles can not see through a blizzard any easier than you can. Give grace if it takes a couple more minutes for emergency services to arrive.
And only call 911 for emergencies.

Our partners have offered some very important information about the current state of this flu season. Please read and take precautions to keep yourselves healthy.

Local hospitals and ambulance services continue to experience significant strain due to an increase in patients with severe respiratory symptoms. Urgent care facilities, doctors’ offices and telehealth services are often faster, more efficient options for medical care

During a call this week with Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH) staff, emergency medical service agencies and hospital system representatives reported ongoing challenges in EDs across the region. Volunteer and professional ambulance crews face extended turnaround times – up to two to three hours – to transfer patients to hospital care. ED volumes have been consistently high for several weeks. Patients experience longer-than-usual wait times to be triaged and seen. Delays in discharges to follow-up care facilities place additional strain on patient care. The end result: additional stress on the entire healthcare system.

The recent reported influenza case increase has led to more patients with more severe illnesses, requiring higher levels of care and longer hospital stays. When patients who have relatively minor symptoms call for an ambulance or visit an ED, they use limited hospital resources that could be used to treat patients with severe, life-threatening conditions.

A primary care provider or urgent care clinic can manage most common illnesses, such as influenza, common colds, sore throats, earaches, minor headaches, low-grade fevers and limited rashes, along with minor injuries like sprains, bruises, minor burns and cuts, broken bones that do not limit movement, and minor eye injuries.

“Reported influenza cases have increased the past few weeks, locally and statewide, and we can expect to see flu circulating into the spring,” said Dr. Burstein. “There is still time to get an influenza vaccine, COVID-19 vaccine or RSV vaccine; these are safe and effective preventive measures. Also, follow other basic guidance to reduce the risk of respiratory illness transmission: stay home and away from others when sick, wash your hands, and wear a mask, especially if you are an older adult or have chronic medical conditions.”

We're overflowing with gratitude for the heartfelt well wishes for our team members who were impacted by the tragic events last evening - thankfully, they're in high spirits! As a family-owned organization, we're deeply touched by the outpouring of love from our community, partners, and EMS teams nationwide. Let this be a powerful reminder to teach new drivers and reinforce with seasoned ones that driving is a tremendous responsibility - caution always supersedes urgency. Minutes only gain significance when accidents occur... arriving a few minutes late is far preferable to risking a life. Let us each ensure we don't become the reason someone else's story is forever altered!

Ambulance crew injured in incident on I290

December 26, 2025, Tonawanda NY -

Shortly before 9pm this evening a Twin City Ambulance crew was assisting a motorist that skidded off the I290 near Niagara Falls Blvd. in the Town of Tonawanda when another vehicle lost control, resulting in a chain reaction collision and injuries to two Twin City Ambulance EMTs.

One EMT was struck and pinned by one of the vehicles. The other EMT was inside the vehicle that was struck.

Both EMTs were transported to ECMC for evaluation and treatment and are in stable condition.

The names of the individuals involved will not be released at this time.

“Tonight we got the call we never wanted get. Our team members, along with other first responders pulled together to render care to a couple of our own. Thankfully we are now receiving positive updates from ECMC.” Said Terence Clark, President of Twin City Ambulance, “I would like to remind people to slow down and move over any time you are approaching emergency vehicles on the roadway. This is especially important during inclement weather like we had today.”

Twin City Ambulance would like to thank the members of the Brighton Fire Company and the Town of Tonawanda Police Department for their efforts on scene.
