Build Yoga and Wellness

Build Yoga and Wellness Can't touch your toes? Monkey Mind? No problem! We welcome you with open arms and practices to help. This is what we are about. This is what we teach. How? Why?

I offer a deep understanding of the body, a good sense of humor and serious devotion to offering each person what is possible thru yoga. OUR MISSION

We believe power, energy and happiness come from connecting the body, breath and mind. ABOUT THE BODY

Seriously, the body is genius. You don’t need to make it genius, it just is. Think about what this really means. The body is more than a vehicle to get you from point A to point B. You have a high performance system that was meant for action, challenges, rest, fun and exploration. It facilitates everything you do. The body isn’t who you are. But it is a mirror. It teaches you about how you are taking care of it. That’s incredible. And it’s yours. Your body needs your attention. The way you hold your body-- the way you sit, stand, walk and sleep-- affects everything you do and how you feel. When you feel pain, discomfort, weakness, instability, tight muscles, headaches, stress, this is the body telling you something is out of balance. You have the power to do something about it. Yoga is way more than being bendy. Good posture and positioning can improve the alignment of your body. This helps you get stronger, develop mobility, protect your joints, eliminate pain, recover faster from injury, improve performance and just plain feel better. Understanding your body better helps you to access power. BREATHING

The practice of yoga is a great physical workout for the body. It also helps you to access the vital power of breathing. We’ve all heard the benefits of “deep and full” breathing. But the value of breathing can lose its meaning. It’s so basic we even take it for granted. In yoga, we train ourselves to be aware of breathing. How many times a day do you notice breathing? Have you ever felt stressed and then reminded yourself to breath, and things got better? Or maybe when you were running, you noticed how regulating your breath helped you run with greater ease? You don’t have to think about breathing, it happens automatically. But consciously working with your breath helps you generate power, handle stress, calm the mind, and approach difficult tasks with more ease and awareness. That’s big. MENTAL FOCUS

The choice of being relaxed and enjoying your day-to-day experience is up to you. We all hear about “meditation” as though it’s something we “should do” or that only “certain people" do, or that it’s “other-worldly.” Some people even find it creepy. But here’s the thing. Meditation is simply quieting the chatter in your mind. Because your chronic thoughts can make you crazy. Quieting the mind feels good. A quiet mind makes you stronger. People meditate without even knowing it. You probably know how it feels. You’re outside on a walk. You’re moving your body, you're seeing the color of the trees, you feel the wind, maybe it's a warm day, you notice the light in the sky. Your mind is relaxed. Your breathing feels good. That’s meditation, or mental focus. This kind of mental focus is a skill that improves everything you do. You’re in charge of where you direct your mind. That’s a game changer.

Nature is slowing down — resting, conserving, and preparing for renewal. It’s a rhythm we can learn from. When we move with intention, even a little each day, we generate inner heat, lift our mood, and feel more alive.

Our “Relaxed and Strong: Every Day Yoga to Feel Your Best” series is designed to help you do just that, to build warmth, strength, and mobility while also cultivating calm and steadiness within.

Jan and Feb 2026, Tues and Thurs 9:00-10:00 am & 5:30-6:30 pm, JCA in Amherst

I don’t know about you, but winter always reminds me how easy it is to slip into stillness in all the ways—less daylight, less outdoor time, and a little less get-up-and-go. The darker months can feel slower, heavier, and quieter. That’s not a bad thing. But our bodies and spirits still crave movement, warmth, and vitality.

Our upcoming 8 week series, "Relaxed and Strong: Every Day Yoga to Feel Your Best" is designed to help you balance strength and relaxation, building the kind of consistency that helps you feel good all winter long, inside and out.

It can be hard to do what you know you need to do, and even WANT to do, to take better care of yourself. Why is it so damn hard? Perhaps it has something to do with a culture that rewards productivity over presence, and the funny thing is that they are not at odds.

I've put a lot of thought into this question. I have strategized ways to get better at it myself and support others to do the same. There is no right way and certainly not one way, but, here are a few suggestions that I've found helpful.

🍎 Acceptance. It's takes humility to be able to see yourself, your default patterns, strengths and weaknesses and embrace your humanness.

🍎 Compassion. Talk to yourself as you would a dear friend that you deeply respect and care about. Offer yourself that level of kindness and tenderness.

🍎 Make a Plan. Keep it Simple. Commit to a short regular practice for a set period of time. Like:
5 minutes of movement day
A daily short walk
A gratitude journal
10 push ups or Daily Plank
Take a yoga class!

Our "Yoga for Empowerment" series at Stone House Farm is starting next week. This 6 week series is all about building your inner strength and finding your rhythm to navigate life's challenges. Join us for 1 or 2 weekly classes designed to help you find your rhythm this fall.

Getting quiet inside yourself is powerful. It's a matter of being with what is, more than attaining a different state. Something powerful happens when we pay attention to how our body feels and our breathing. The very act of drawing our attention into our body helps stabilize us.

Our "Yoga for Empowerment" 6 week outdoor series at Stone House Farm is an invitation to experience both peace and power as you step into your personal strength. Morning and evening classes start in September.
