“We do not become healers.
We came as healers. We are.
Some of us are still catching up to what we are.

We do not become storytellers.
We came as carriers of the stories that
we and our ancestors actually lived. We are.
Some of us are still catching up to what we are.

We do not become artists. We came as artists. We are.
Some of us are still catching up to what we are.

We do not become writers.. dancers.. musicians.. helpers.. peacemakers. We came as such. We are.

Some of us are still catching up to what we are.

We do not learn to love in this sense. We came as Love. We are Love. Some of us are still catching up to who we truly are.”~

INITIAL RN COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT (IRCA)

The purpose of the Initial RN Comprehensive Assessment (IRCA) is to help clarify for the client and their families the expected progression of their disease process(es). The goal is to highlight barriers and assets for the client’s self-care in their home.

Generally, two to three sessions (a minimum of 2 hours each) are required to generate The Comprehensive Assessment Report. The number of sessions required will be determined and agreed upon based on information from the the initial phone interview.

MEDICATIONS
Each medicine or treatment will be reviewed and detailed. Physicians and pharmacies will be contacted (if required) to ensure accuracy. An updated easy-to-read list will be generated and provided. Any concerns, questions, or duplicate therapies will be noted for review with the clients’ primary care provider (P*P).

BASIC VITAL SIGN ASSESSMENTS
Vital signs (BP, heart rate, respiratory rate, pulse ox sats) will be taken at intervals in various stages of activity. Any irregularities or concerns will be noted for review with the P*P.

COMPREHENSIVE RN PHYSICAL ASSESSMENT
A comprehensive assessment will be performed, noting any irregularities or abnormal findings not already receiving treatment for review with the P*P. This will include an assessment of transferring and walking abilities, the ability to provide adequate self-hygiene, the ability to prepare food and feed self, the ability to perform other standard activities of daily living, and cognitive functioning.

SUMMARY OF STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES
A summary of the clients physical, cognitive, and emotional strengths and weaknesses will be provided in easy to read, practical language. NO medical-speak. “Layman’s terms”

RECOMMENDED ADJUSTMENTS
Suggestions will be provided based on the Initial Comprehensive RN Assessment.

PROPOSED PLAN OF CARE
The observations and suggestions may or may not include an offer of provision of care by HBHC. It will not require, nor will it be implied, that HBHC will provide the services suggested for the client.

When you get diagnosed with ADD/ADHD in your 50’s:

You stop feeling guilty and being hard on yourself for all the incomplete ventures you’ve tried, and for all those unfinished projects lying around.

You stop blaming yourself and start finishing them one by one.

You consciously choose which ones are achievable and which ones aren’t, and throw the aren’ts away. You judiciously decide whether a new project is worthy of being put in the queue.

You start feeling pride, accomplishment, and satisfaction as you complete projects, one by one.

You stop regretting that you don’t remember lots of the little stuff (while you were busy flitting around taking care of your family and home and college and working and umpteen projects).

But — you thank God for kids and a spouse who have great memories and laugh about them. You’re grateful to at least usually remember the event, if not all the details. And oh yeah - old fashioned drugstore-printed pics.

At 45 you’re like “do I have dementia already?” when you realize they’re talking about something you can’t remember -and maybe should?

In your fifties you learn - it wasn’t dementia, it was ADD. You don’t remember it because your ADD had you distracted in a thousand different directions.

You’re reassured because - at least they have good memories.

But dang it, just in case… you start to journal. 🤷🏼‍♀️ and occasionally reassure yourself, dementia doesn’t run on either parents’ side. 😅

You can’t take the meds because of the side effects - but through trial and error find holistic and practical ways to manage your ADD/ADHD. Your liver is happier and your heart doesn’t pit-a-Pat.

This is dedicated to all those middle aged people who were diagnosed or who finally figured out that they have ADD/ADHD, and stopped spinning their wheels and blaming themselves for rarely finishing stuff or for not remembering things.

You’re not alone. 💕 you CAN work around it. Figure it out. Make it work for you.

If you’ve gotten this far, I’ll be glad to answer any questions you may have about what I’ve done to make it work, without meds.

✌🏼
