June is Men’s Mental Health Month. According to SAMSHA, nearly 20% of American adult men (that’s around 24.6 million people) experienced a mental health condition over the last year. But because of the stigma around men’s mental health, many men resist seeking treatment.

Let’s shift the conversation around men’s mental health this and every month. Remember: asking for help with your mental health isn’t a sign of weakness - it’s a sign of strength. You are not alone. PC: Mental Health America

April is !

We know that life can sometimes feel like a rollercoaster. You might have some highs and some lows, some stressful times and some joyful times.
You might feel discouraged and not know what to do when you’re in a stressful situation. To help you get beyond the moment, try embracing these five steps to help manage your stress.

1. Identify what is stressing you out.
2. Prioritize and handle one Stressor at a time.
3. Engage in relaxation techniques.
4. Try to keep a hopeful mindset.
5. Reach out to your support system.

If you’ve relapsed, whether from an eating disorder, self-injury, substance use, or another form of self-harm, know that you are not a failure. You now have the opportunity to take what you’ve learned and try again.
Chances are the next time you try quitting will be easier than the first time. The worst thing to do is to give up hope. Don’t give up hope.

Devin McOmber is a Licensed Professional Counselor who works with teens and adults to improve mental wellness and learn more about how to focus on what matters in life. Devin believes that counseling is one component of gold-standard mental health treatment along with all the other disciplines and approaches offered at Pearl Health Clinic such as medical therapy, case management, and community-based rehabilitation services. Devin views counseling as the platform by which clients can connect with their thoughts and emotions in a way that allows them to recognize how they are connected. By doing so clients can begin to recognize ways in which they are not living consistently with their core values or doing more things in life that truly matter.

Devin McOmber practices cognitive behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy to treat a wide range of mental health issues. Devin primarily has experience in drug addiction counseling, anxiety, depression, and attention deficit disorder. Devin McOmber holds a master’s degree in clinical Mental Health Counseling from Idaho State University.

Aspen is a licensed professional counselor who works with a diverse population to address a range of diagnoses. She adopts a person-centered perspective, believing that each individual has innate potential to reach whatever goals they may have and strives to support clients through their unique journeys. Genuineness, unconditional positive regard and acceptance, and empathic understanding are fundamental to Aspen’s counseling approach. Creating a safe space for all emotions to be felt and processed, Aspen utilizes a collection of therapeutic techniques to tailor her practice to each individual. She is thrilled to begin her career at Pearl Health Clinic as the clinic’s values closely align with her own.

Aspen first went to college to study chemistry. Toward the end of her college career, she added a dual major with criminology, and graduated with degrees in both. She was involved in an undergraduate internship that first introduced her to counseling as she worked alongside counselors with adolescents at risk of incarceration and addiction. After graduating college, Aspen realized her passion did not lie with chemistry, but instead with compassion, support, and helping others. Deciding to quit her stable job in a chemistry lab to pursue graduate school was the best decision she could have made and taught her the importance of following your own passions, regardless of criticism. She graduated from Walden University with a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She jokes that she is just collecting degrees that begin with the letter C. All jokes aside, Aspen has found her place and looks forward to continuously growing as a counselor.
