*** RONNIE HARRISON ***

Wren-Ronald Wayne “Ronnie” Harrison, 74, of Wren, passed away on April 9, 2026. Born on July 27, 1951, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, he was the son of the late Bonnie and Herman Harrison. As a child, Ronnie returned with his family to Amory, where he grew up and graduated from Amory High School in 1970.

In 1971, Ronnie married the love of his life, Susan Williams, and together they built a life and home in Wren, surrounded by family, friends, and a community he cherished. He was a member of Central Grove Baptist Church.

Ronnie had a deep love for life’s simple pleasures-RV camping, square dancing, and the friendships that came along with it. He never met a stranger, and his easygoing nature, warm smile, and gift of conversation made everyone feel at ease. Many afternoons, one could find him at BAM in Nettleton, sharing stories and laughter with “the guys,” or stopping by Pender Auto Parts, another of his favorite gathering spots.

Before retiring, Ronnie worked at the Monroe County Shopper, owned by Star Printing, a job he truly loved. He had a special way of connecting with people and looked forward to seeing his customers each day-many of whom became lasting friends.

Visitation will be held from 5p-7p, Monday, April 13, at EE Pickle Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 14, at 10:30 am at EE Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory, with Bro. Robert Moore and Bro. Dennis Smithey officiating. Burial will follow at Haughton Memorial Park.

Ronnie is lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Susan; his son, Matthew Harrison (Lauren) of Nashville, Tennessee; his brother, Cayce Harrison (Nancy) of Russellville, Alabama; and his cherished granddaughter, Harper Harrison of Nashville, Tennessee, who was the light of his life and brought him great joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Marty Harrison of Tupelo.

Pallbearers will be Alan Haney, Dean Mann, Jeff Boozer, Jimmy Williams, Kenneth Archer, Larry Shelton, Paul Hicks, Ricky Ciarloni and Richard Milstead.

Honorary Pallbearers are Billy Thompson and Travis Robertson.

Carol Williams
Obituary for Carol Rue Williams

October 16, 1947 – April 1, 2026

Carol Rue Williams, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026. Born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, Carol was the cherished daughter of John Rego Rue IV and Evelyn Dean Rue of Amory, Mississippi. As her family wrote, “She will be remembered for her smile, her ability to make anyone feel welcome, her generosity and her ‘carolisms’.”

Carol grew up in Amory, where her natural athleticism and spirited personality quickly became evident. A proud Amory Panther, she excelled in basketball and track and shone as a cheerleader. After high school, she briefly attended Mississippi State University, but not before embarking on an adventure that became one of her favorite stories—working in Yellowstone National Park. There, she explored fearlessly, embraced independence, and even claimed to have mastered deboning a trout tableside. As her family lovingly noted, “Although we never actually witnessed, knowing Carol’s determination and adventurous spirit, we absolutely believed her.”

In 1969, Carol married the love of her life, Jerry Dale Williams. While Jerry completed his degree at MSU, Carol entered the workforce, eventually finding her calling in banking. She thrived as a receptionist, teller, and later in the loan department, where her warmth and genuine desire to help others left a lasting impact on customers and colleagues alike. She also shared her talents generously with her community, teaching swimming, diving, and tennis lessons for many years.

Service was woven into the fabric of Carol’s life. A longtime blood and plasma donor, she believed deeply in the power of small acts of kindness. She volunteered with the Red Cross, helping pack supplies for those in need, often reminding others that “with just little effort, you could lend a helping hand and feel so good afterwards.”

Carol embraced life with joy and enthusiasm. She loved her Amory Panthers, Mississippi State Bulldogs, and Dallas Cowboys. She relished a good greasy hamburger and french fries. She adored her dog, Max. She treasured laughing until she cried with her best friend, Dorinda Miller. She found happiness in swimming, diving, water skiing, playing golf, and dancing—especially in the kitchen with her grandchildren. Above all, Carol fiercely loved her family.

Carol is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 60 years, Jerry; her daughters and their families: Wendy Rue Williams and her husband, Rich Blumenthal, and their children, Billy and Janie, of Boston, Massachusetts; and Lindsay Carol Williams and her son, Tyce Williams-Key, of Southaven, Mississippi; and her loving and devoted brothers, John Rego Rue V of Marietta, Georgia and Steve Rue of Mechanicsville, Virgina.

A celebration of Carol’s life will be held on Tuesday, April 7 at 2 p.m. at EE Pickle Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 12 p.m. Burial will follow at Masonic Cemetery with pallbearers being Robert Tate, Skip Miles, Dr. Tom Monaghan, Larry “Smokey” Witcher, Billy Blumenthal, and Tyce Williams-Key. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Herndon, Gerald Pate, Dr. Jim Monroe, and Dickie Miller. Following the burial a reception will be held at St. Andrew’s Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, gifts, or food, the family asks you please consider the following alternatives, donations of food or flowers be made to a local charity or that you “break bread with a neighbor.” Contributions in Carol’s memory may also be made to The Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement, Girls LEAP, or House of Grace. (websites available below)

Most importantly, the family invites everyone to honor Carol by performing a random act of kindness. As they wrote, “We all carry loads that no one sees. Sometimes, the smallest act of kindness makes the largest impact.”

****** Polly Brown *********

Polly Marie Yaple Brown

August 30, 1935 – March 4, 2026

In her 90 years on this earth, Polly was a doer that sometimes shook things up in the town of Amory.

Originally from Erie, PA, Polly Brown taught kindergarten in Ashtabula, OH, after marrying Charles H. Brown Jr. in 1957, after graduating from Westminster College in PA.

In 1964, a new manufacturer, True Temper corporation, built a new facility in Amory. Polly, Chuck and their three children, Charles H. Brown III “Chip”, Darcy Lynne Brown and Dana Paul Brown came with it. The young family made a life for themselves in Amory, helping establish and settle the Meadowbrook subdivision as it grew from a former cotton field into a vibrant and dynamic neighborhood.

Polly taught first grade during the 1966-67 school year in the East Amory Elementary school, which is now home to the walking track. She remained in contact with some of her first graders throughout their lives. After that year of full-time teaching, she became a regular substitute at the elementary and middle schools. During these years she also served as a Brownie Troop Mom.

Never one to just sit still and become a full -time housewife, she later established a catering business which serviced banquets, weddings, receptions and birthdays. Her original painted cakes were locally famous and her attention to detail created many beautiful memories.

Her family settled into the First Presbyterian Church of Amory, where she served several terms in the congregational session and participated in church activities including, but not limited to care packages for veterans and active military, baby packages for families in need and helped establish the original Amory Food Pantry at the Presbyterian Church, along with establishing the original Meals on Wheels Program in Amory. Many of these activities were coordinated not only through the church, but also in her long involvement and leadership in the Century Club and Junior Auxiliary, which recognized her as Citizen of the Year in 1988. She also taught English as a Second Language at IJC and formed a lasting bond with an extended family immigrated from Taiwan.

Between all her local civic activities and helping raise her grandchildren while her son was deployed, she also cared for her mother and mother-in-law in their final years.

Her favorite leisure pastime for many years was playing bridge. She was very active in clubs singularly and with her husband and was known as the matriarch of the club she was active with through this past year.

If Amory had an original civil rights activist, it was Polly Brown. She never sought accolades or recognition, but her passion carried on in the lives of many. The number of lives she touched are countless, and many never knew her name.

She is preceded in death by her parents Ivan C. Yaple and Nellie Rogers Yaple of Erie, PA, her brothers Gordon and David and a daughter Pearl.

She is survived by her husband Chuck and their three children along with 7 grandchildren and one great-grand daughter.

*** A Celebration of Life Memorial Service at First Presbyterian Church of Amory will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Tom Cheatham officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church in Amory from 1:00 pm until the service hour. ***

1 Corinthians 13: 4-8

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

With it being Groundhog Day, it seems like a good idea to learn more about groundhogs. Did you know that they are vegetarians, native to North America, create impressive underground burrows with multiple "rooms," and can sometimes hibernate up to six months? As long as Punxsutawney Phil predicts a short winter, we'll all be happy!
