"...the Iraqis that were in Kuwait, from the top person to the lowest person were the most brutal individuals that society has had to deal with since WWII." - Gen Buster Glosson, Director of Air Force Campaign Plans, 1991.

Remember D Day, 81 years ago....
On June 6, 1944, more than 160,000 Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of heavily-fortified French coastline, to fight N**i Germany on the beaches of Normandy, France. Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower called the operation a crusade in which, “we will accept nothing less than full victory.”

More than 5,000 Ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the D-Day invasion, and by day’s end, the Allies gained a foot-hold in Continental Europe. The cost in lives on D-Day was high. More than 9,000 Allied Soldiers were killed or wounded, but their sacrifice allowed more than 100,000 Soldiers to begin the slow, hard slog across Europe, to defeat Adolf Hitler’s crack troops.

31 years ago today, 23 paratroopers perished as a result of the Green Ramp disaster that occurred at the then Pope Air Force Base. Another paratrooper would who was injured later passed away due to their injuries 10 months after the disaster.

The accident began with a C-130E and an F-16D that collided while three hundred feet in the air. The ultimate and unfortunate result was a massive fireball of debris that rapidly fell to the ground directly towards an area where 82nd Airborne Division paratroopers were gathered.

We will never forget the 24 paratroopers that were lost, we will continue to help those injured and we will continue to thank those who responded to help those in need.
