Eating after a FAST is big Part of why we FAST!

Some simple truths about fasting; Fasting is NOT easy, however practice and support will improve how we fast.
Food cravings, irritability, nausea, discomfort, weakness can all be associated with fasting.
Metabolism slows during a fast and many of our hormone levels will fall during a fast. (there are excellent strategies to make for robust improvements in our hormones post fasting)
Essentially, during a fast our Cells are in panic regarding the lack of fuel. In this "threatened" state we begin to unravel stored glucose called glycogen and eventually we will burn our fat stores. This is Called "ketosis" the driver of our metabolism when finding food within and feeding our brains with ketones rather than glucose. During this time our cells are getting hungry and work to clean up cellular debris in efforts to scavenge.
So Much benefits with fasting, however the more I work with patients I discover how impactful reintroduction to food is in optimization of body composition. Fasting prepares our foundation site and during "re-feeding" we build NEW cells on this foundation.

Inflammation is part of aging, however there is so much we can do to lower our inflammatory load. To start, eliminate all processed foods and increase the spices in your life! Spices are packed with nutrition and phytochemicals that often block inflammation while supporting cell function. Ginger, turmeric, basil, saffron and black pepper are spices that help reduce the "downstream" effects of inflammatory load. Humans have had a longstanding relationship with plants and spices. These are the foods our cells have known for generations, however modern day food practices are relatively new to the human digestive tract. Most of us could do well with a break from foods we tend to overeat-our "comfort foods" The fact is that food is our number one contributor to inflammatory load! In addition healthy sleep patterns help facilitate cell clean up and immune organization. Movement and stress management also play a large part in how inflammation manifests. Sure, there are supplements that you can take, however my first recommendation is to work on foundational health. Diet, movement, sleep and stress management provide a foundation for total health. There is always a new product or program, however science continues to reveal "biochemical treasures" that are a result of simple foundational practices such as a whole foods diet, sleep optimization, movement and a healthy balance of our stress hormones.
