‘To become familiar with…’ is the definition of meditation. This can look like a lot of things, becoming familiar with our thoughts, patterns, habits, feelings, surroundings, etc.
The heart of meditation resides in becoming still with one’s self. Still enough to observe what’s going on in an around us. Thoughts will continue like a clouds passing by or cars a crowded freeway. It’s the observation of the thoughts that matters most.
True meditation is sitting with our thoughts. Some say their meditation is being in nature, cooking, walking. A mindful waking state helps us become more present, yes, but falls under the category of ‘mindfulness’.
Deeper still is the undercurrent of our subconscious, where habits are formed. Here is where we want to go to re-program our patterns, re-wire our thoughts, and re-awaken our connection with ourselves and this incredible life.
