Curious what Dr. Laura was up to while she was gone last month? She was with in Tanzania, providing rehab after patients received their free total knee replacements. The team operated on 38 patients, replacing 47 joints. The team also helped distribute shoes with to over 900 children in Arusha at a school and . Every patient also received a pair of HOKAs after their surgery 👟 This was Dr. Laura’s 6th trip with and her 2nd time to Tanzania.

ℹ️The Biering-Sørensen test, aka Sorenson hold evaluates the endurance of the lower back extensor muscles

🤓Studies indicate that endurance vs. absolute strength of the lumbar extensor muscles is more predictive of reduced risk for low back pain (LBP)

Data showed individuals that held this time for less than 60 seconds were significantly more likely to develop LBP in the next 12 months‼️

Of course there are often other factors at play here, but this is an often overlooked physical component and easy to implement!

🌀If going straight for the hold isn’t right for you, try the following regressions:

🔹Feet elevated bridge
🔹Superman holds
🔹Yoga ball extensions

If you’re already able to hold the base test position for at least 60 seconds, then try one of the progressions for more challenge! 💪🏻

🔹Weighted Holds
🔹Hold with an overhead press
🔹Hold with alternating row (for a fun anti-rotation spin on things)

We had a great time yesterday! It was amazing to help fuel the athletes and have them be worked on! We witnessed incredible displays of strength Saturday. Thanks to all the therapists that volunteered their time, unfortunately we have to get better at taking pictures so they are tagged as bananas 🍌

Does your child experience bedwetting, constipation, and incontinence? Did you know pelvic floor therapy can help resolve these symptoms? Please join Dr Laura Huie DPT in a free in person Potty Party workshop with pastries and treats to teach parents how to help their child with these frustrating symptoms.

Does your child have any of these symptoms?
