Community connection is at the heart of what we do. 💙

Recently, our Case Manager Brandi and two of our outstanding MSW interns stepped away from the office to help celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the USO Joint Base Elmendorf - Richardson.

From honoring the incredible volunteers who give their time so generously, to recognizing the longstanding supporters who have sustained this mission for a decade, it was a meaningful celebration of service and community. And of course, there were plenty of smiles (and tail wags!) as they spent time with the American Red Cross of Alaska therapy dogs. 🐾

We are so grateful for opportunities to stand alongside organizations that pour so much into the well-being of service members and their families. Congratulations to the USO on 10 years of impact — thank you for all you do to strengthen our military community!

We are excited to once again partner with Paws for Purple Hearts Alaska to bring this incredible group experience to our clients! 🐾💜
This unique, in-person PTSD group combines therapist-led, evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) skills with real, hands-on learning alongside service dogs in training. Participants not only build practical coping tools, but also experience the powerful connection and regulation support that comes from working directly with these amazing dogs.
Through this partnership, clients will:
• Learn and practice CBT skills for managing trauma responses
• Develop tools for emotional regulation and self-soothing
• Explore how service dogs support PTSD recovery
• Engage in interactive canine handling sessions guided by skilled facilitators
Seats are limited, but there’s still time to register! If you’re interested in participating or want to learn more, reach out soon to secure your spot.
We’re grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with organizations that bring innovative, meaningful healing experiences to the service members, veterans, and families we serve. 💙

At the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Alaska Behavioral Health, going above and beyond isn’t the exception — it’s the standard.
This week, one of our clinical fellows reminded us what that looks like in real time. During a session, he joined a client in a celebratory round of Pretty Pretty Princess — tiara and all — as a reward for hard work and meaningful progress.
Yes, there was a tiara. And yes, it was worn with complete professionalism.
Moments like this matter. Healing often happens in the space where trust, safety, and genuine connection are built — sometimes through conversation, sometimes through evidence-based practice, and sometimes through a board game that makes someone feel seen, valued, and encouraged.
We are proud of our team members who consistently meet clients with creativity, humility, and dedication — doing whatever it takes (including wearing a tiara) to support growth and resilience.

We are proud to share that our Clinic Director, Dr. MaryBeth Goodman, was selected as the Bobby Alexander Civic Leader of the Year by the Armed Services YMCA of Alaska at the 49th Annual Salute to the Military.

MaryBeth has been a dedicated advocate for Alaska’s military community. This recognition reflects not only her commitment, but the strength of the team and community she leads with compassion and purpose every day. Please join us in congratulating MaryBeth on this well-deserved honor!

Members of our clinic team and leaders from Alaska Behavioral Health were proud to join her at the event.

Whether you're single, in a relationship, or somewhere in between, prioritizing yourself is always essential. Love comes in many forms—and the most important one starts with YOU.
Here are 3 simple ways to today:
💛 Start your morning with a moment of mindfulness—take a deep breath, meditate, or journal.
💛 Treat yourself—enjoy your favorite meal or pick up that book you’ve been meaning to read.
💛 Practice gratitude—acknowledge the little things that make life brighter.
Your well-being matters, and taking care of yourself is never selfish; it’s necessary (and an investment in YOU!).
Tell us in the comments—what’s your go-to self-care ritual? 👇
