ℹ️🌿 UNDERSTANDING OUR INNATE NEED FOR CONNECTION |

From the moment we are born, trust plays a vital role in our lives. As infants, we instinctively trust our caregivers to provide for our basic needs, such as food and comfort. This early trust forms the foundation for our emotional development and shapes our ability to form healthy relationships throughout our lives.

Humans are biologically wired to trust. When a baby cries out in hunger, they trust that their mother will respond and provide nourishment. As the mother consistently meets the baby's needs, the trust between them grows, leading to a secure attachment. This process is facilitated by bonding chemicals like oxytocin, which promote feelings of love and connection.

Trusting relationships during infancy and childhood have a profound impact on brain development. Through countless interactions with loving caregivers, children internalize a sense of safety and security, forming what psychologists call "emotional object constancy." This inner sense of love and comfort enables them to regulate their emotions and navigate the world with greater resilience.

What If Coming To Therapy Could Be Totally Diffferent?

The idea for The Counseling Cottage was born out of a desire to see a revolutionized environment for therapy to be provided. I was walking down the hallway at a hospital I was working at and observed many people sitting in blue plastic chairs, waiting for their appointments to see their therapists.

I wanted to create an environment and experience for a client that was the opposite of what I saw in every way...to make a place I would want to go to if I needed to talk about really painful or difficult experiences.

The Counseling Cottage has comfy sofas, a fireplace, art, tea, coffee, snacks, great light, complementary internet, privacy, and downtown parking to boot. It is an imtimate space to safely be vulnerable. Some clients prefer to check in and then walk around the Park Strip or the Coastal Trail with their clinician. A few parents bring their children to read and/or play in one of the other rooms, or the outside fenced back yard while they are in session.

The Counseling Cottage was designed to best serve families, and to make seeking therapy easier and comfortable.
